Over the weekend, Donald Trump sat for an interview with former CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson, who now does a show called “Full Measure.”
Trump talked about his campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris and hamburgers.
I went through the full transcript — and picked out the lines you need to see. They’re below.
This is one of a handful of posts I put behind my paywall. These posts take significant time and effort. But going through the words of our presidential candidates (and politicians more generally) is critically important. And I am the only political journalist doing this work!
I hope you consider becoming an investor in what I am building. It’s $6 a month or $60 a year. Not only do you get access to ALL of my content but you get a bunch of other perks including a weekly Sunday email highlighting the best things I saw on the Internet each week!
To the Lines!
“People from jails and people from gangs that are all over there like Caracas in Venezuela, their crime is down 72%.”
Not true! Not even close! Also, the question that was asked was whether Trump is a threat to democracy. And away we go!
“They are a threat to democracy. What they're doing to our country, they're poisoning our country. They're poisoning it.”
If you don’t know what he’s up to here, read this.
“We have 21 million, at least 21 million. They have a lower number. They say 16 million, whether it's 16 or 21, but I think it's much more than 21.”
There are not 21 million undocumented immigrants in this country. There are 11 million.
“You know, the only ones that really are trouble are consequential presidents. So in that way it's a very nice honor.”
So, people only assassinate “consequential” presidents?
“I understand countries, I understand who rips us and who doesn't.”
“I understand countries.” Honestly, same.
“I mean, two times if I go another 300 or 400 yards walking, which I would've been there in a few minutes, right? Probably 15 minutes. Nasty things could have happened, would've happened.”
He’s talking about the second assassination attempt where the gunman was waiting several holes ahead of where Trump was playing on the course. But this description of those events is literally unintelligible.
“And then they caught him with the help of a woman, by the way, that got the license plate.”
Why does he say “by the way” here? I have no earthly idea.
“Bobby will do great on health and on the environment.”
“Bobby” is RFK Jr. Also, on “health,” he is a noted anti-vaxxer. So, uh, maybe not?
“But a short while in my life is an eternity.”
That is DEEP.
“But Bobby's is a really, what he's done on healthcare over the years. I mean I've known him for a long time. And with him, it's eating what you eat, what chemicals you put in your body.”
I am sure RFK Jr. wants his legacy to be the work he has done on “eating what you eat.”
