This morning, I got my 800th paid subscriber.
WOOHOO!!!!
I want to sincerely thank every single person who has decided to become a paid subscriber over the first 6 months of this newsletter.
I have — mostly — kept the majority of my content free so far. Which means that the vast majority of people who have paid for a subscription have done so solely to show support for the sort of independent analysis I am doing here.
I can’t tell you how much that means to me.
Slowly but surely I have been adding elements that are for paid subscribers only. That includes a music playlist every Thursday and, now, my Friday mailbag post.
I have also been experimenting with doing a weekend — Sunday? — video for paid subscribers only that highlights a storyline you need to keep an eye on going into the coming week.
I am always looking for other ways to incentivize people to go from free to paid and am open to ideas. Like, would people join a once-a-month Zoom call (assuming I could master the logistics of it) with me where you could ask whatever you wanted?
What else would you want as a paying subscriber? The comments section awaits.
As “So What?” matures, I DO expect to put more and more of my content behind a pay wall. When will that come? I honestly can say I am not entirely sure. But it is coming.
Maybe if you’ve been enjoying this newsletter for free, now is the time to upgrade to paid. I’d love to get to 1,000 paying subscribers in the next three months — and I think it’s a totally doable goal.
You can be part of that movement here:
But mostly I just wanted to take a minute to say THANK YOU to the 800 folks who are now paying for my journalism. I am grateful for each one of you. And I hope we can get lots more people to join your ranks :)
You gone from CNN was a shock, and created a big hole in my daily news routine.
Finding you on Substack brought back joy.
No, THANK YOU! For continuing to use your gifts for the benefit of all of us who have been fans for years. I learn so much from you.
