1. It’s a cult of personality, part 830: Dulles Airport is sooooo over. Trump Airport has a MUCH nicer ring to it.
That’s according to a half dozen House Republicans — led by Pennsylvania Rep. Guy Reschenthaler — who have introduced legislation to change the name of one of the DC area’s airports to honor the past (and future?) president.
“In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump,” Reschenthaler said in a statement. “As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing 'Welcome to Trump International Airport' as they land on American soil.”
Let’s make one thing very clear: This will almost certainly not happen. Republicans have a tiny majority at the moment and have bigger, uh, fish to fry — most notably deciding whether or not America will continue to help fund Ukraine’s war against Russian incursion. Also, the Senate is controlled by Democrats last time I checked and they are not going to go along with this re-naming effort.
But, the very fact that it is being proposed speaks to the ways in which the Republican party has evolved into a cult of personality around Trump.
