1. The head-in-the-sand party

Let’s start with a chart, shall we? This one comes from a recent NBC News national poll:

There’s a LOT going on there. But, I want to draw your attention to one bar chart in particular. It’s this one:

BY FAR Donald Trump’s biggest advantage over Joe Biden is among people who do not follow political news at all. None. Zero. Zilch.

The most facile conclusion to be drawn from those numbers is that Trump voters are simply ignorant of what’s really going on in the world — and proudly so. They know what they think and they aren’t going to let facts or context (or anything else) get in the way.

And that’s not wrong! But, to me, the more interesting thing to examine is what those numbers mean. And as far as I can tell, they suggest a success and a problem.
