1. Sleeping on the job: In journalism, when something happens once, you take a note to keep an eye on it. But when it happens twice β on back-to-back days no less! β itβs probably worth writing on.
Which brings me to Donald Trump β and his, er, habits while attending his hush money trial in a courtroom in New York City.
We got this from New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman on Monday, the first day of the trial:
Even as a judge was hearing arguments on last-minute issues in a criminal case that centers on salacious allegations and threatens to upend his bid for the presidency, Mr. Trump appeared to nod off a few times, his mouth going slack and his head drooping onto his chest.
And then today came this report from Frank Runyeon, a reporter for Law 360, a legal publication:
Now. I am not in the room. (Both Haberman and Runyeon are.) And assessing whether someone is truly asleep or just βresting their eyesβ (as my dad used to say when he was asleep) is not easy.
But, I have fallen asleep in my fair share of high school and college classes. And, dear reader, what Maggie and Runyeon describe is exactly what I looked like when I was nodding off.
I know there are plenty of people who are dunking on Don for sleeping. Which, fair play β especially given that he has made it part of his stump speech to attack Joe Biden for being low energy and out of it.
You can get that anywhere though! Only in this newsletter can you get a detailed breakdown of what Trump has said about his sleep habits in the past!
