The problem is that the media is no longer unbiased in the perception of the people. The news is no longer "the news" as it was in the Walter Cronkite days. The media has not helped this situation because in their efforts to boost ratings, they have conflated opinion with news. This is exacerbated by the fact that people have lost their ability to discern "news" for "opinion" because the media represents both as "news".

The most interesting part of his bashing of the press is that he is obsessed with being the headline story on every newscast everyday. Itโ€™s like sucking up to the head cheerleader and then talking smack about her behind her back. The man is truly in permanent adolescence.

This is the President of the United States, Ladies and Gentlemen. You would think he would have more important things to do every day.

There is zero surprise over this fact.

This is the method of dictators, demagogues and authoritarians.

Donald Trump is the biggest threat to America and the freedoms and rights we enjoy, in history.

At least freedoms and rights that we USED to enjoy. They are being eroded every day by this thuggish wanna-be king.

Can we please stop referencing the โ€œgolden escalator โ€œ???? I mean, seriously, itโ€™s been 10 years, but still whenever anyone wants to provide scope of Trumpโ€™s reign, thatโ€™s where they go. Maybe itโ€™s just me, but I just donโ€™t want to hear about it anymore.

My long-standing opinion has been that gutting the Fairness Doctrine in the Reagan years was the single most debilitating event to credible journalism in modern history. It led to Fox News and, worse, Lying Limbaugh. The last segment of 60 Minutes w/ Shana Alexander vs Kilpatrick was informative (that spawned the SNL "Jane, you ignorant slut") . We need that now more than ever. This "journalism" of unchallenged sound bites by interviewers on all networks is dragging the country down. We used to have a round table discussion by opposing sides by Tom Snyder back in the day but that was lacking also. Maher used to have a more vigorous debate of opposing opinions but that has gone downhill too, again, imho.

I think it's fair to say that most journalists are college educated and probably went to journalism graduate school after that. Most college educated people vote for or tend to agree with the Democrats. Journalists have political freedom of choice for which they should not apologize. It does not mean that they insert a partisan position into everything they write.

Agree!

But we should acknowledge that most reporters vote for Democrats!

BTWโ€ฆ. we should acknowledge that most in these professions and groups vote for Republicansโ€ฆsome examplesโ€ฆ

Law enforcementโ€ฆie. Police officers

Military

Catholic priests

Truck Drivers

Car Salesmen

Farmers

Plumbers

Business owners

Talk show hosts

Accountants

Investment bankers

Financial services

Fossil fuel industry

Insurance industry

Construction

CEOโ€™s of large corporations

Less educated

I hear this acknowledged quite often. And, well, yeah I guess that's good.

I am so glad he attacks the press on a daily basis given the previous president lacked any kind of daily, monthly or was it yearly intereaction with the press. ( for people like dutch, this known as sarcasm)

It wasnโ€™t just Biden who talked less and less to the press. Obama didnโ€™t meet with them much either. Like celebrities, politicians are learning to go directly to the people and go around the press and difficult questions.

you misunderstood the meaning of my comment...the owner of this site loves the fact the giant orange menace is a great showman, he can't govern, but at least he entertains...

I believe the direct approach to your audiance is better, however, there is an information ecosystem built around a large industry that used to be able to communicate effectively, but that era has long passed...

we live in a very dangerous moment and have to rely on the uniformed and uneducated to wake up before it is too late...of course since they live in the fux news bubble, that is unlikely to happen

Thank you, yes, I agree and I am fearful more for future generations than I am for me. But I am fearful.

Mary,

Be defiant, that is the best lesson you can leave for future generations. Help them find where they can make a difference.

I was intrigued that Fox was included in his hits; but then I realized he just wants the most publicity he can get. Sad.

Chris Cillizza's avatar

I think he believes Fox is on his team. Like, they work for him. Which is why when they do anything he doesn't like, he lashes out.

Sam's avatar

This is a great point. He has a few modes of berating. "No one knows who they are. "Failing." Those are for enemies and new comers. For people who have been supporters, he talks about gratitude. "I made them. They'd be nothing without me."

Sam's avatar

I'm not sure it's entirely strategic, at least not consciously. I think he's a man who gets angry easily, and like anyone else, he only gets angry at things he learns about. He watches a lot of Fox News. So that's what he gets angry at.

Trump demands loyalty, only with him it's a one-way street.

One post a day. How many stories, posts, comments, and newscasts did the media create that attacked Trump? I bet it was more than one a day.

And I am thinking back on all the stories the media got wrong that made Trump or maga look bad. Here are a few:

Russian collusion.

Reporting Hunters laptop was Russian disinformation.

Accusing that school kid with a maga hat of disrespecting a native American.

Accusing the kid who was a KC fan of wearing blackface.

On and on.

And how many stories do you remember where the media incorrectly attacked Dems?

And how often did the press actually COVER for Dems rather than report "balls and strikes". Even today, we are getting "mostly peaceful" BS about the riots in LA.

Come on Chris, Trump is certainly bombastic at times but the media deserves to be distrusted. Until there is balance in the press pool the major networks will be distanced.

I will acknowledge that News Nation seems to be trying, you did good hitching up with them.

Whenever I mention something about Jan 6 or other things, I hear the following from several MAGA friends / family "That's not real, it's just what your news is showing." MAGA has his followers doubting all news sources other than Fox and Newsmax, everyone else is lying.

DAVID KEYMAN's avatar

One network paid over $700 million to settle a lawsuit for lying to their viewers.

Mary Harriet Talbut's avatar

This fake news and distrust, I think, will be the lasting legacy of Trump, which I think has done the most damage. Yes, media needs to take some responsibility, but the gaslighting and name calling of people asking questions or presenting him with the truth of a situation is what makes my head hurt the most.

The only warning they received from Israel was you should bring non essential people because the temperatures are getting hotter and hotter
