Donald Trump's insane Easter rant
And why we can't look away.
While you were at church or your kids (or grandkids) were searching your yard for Easter eggs, Donald Trump posted a message on Truth Social, uh, commemorating the Easter holiday.
What the actual hell.
Where to start?
How about that this was the Republican presidential nominee’s message on Easter Sunday — the most joyful day of the year for Christians around the world? Jesus is risen! He has overcome death! He was crucified, died and was buried — and on the 3rd day he rose again!
If you are religious, it’s a day to celebrate that founding miracle. And to get a little dressed up. Go out to a nice meal. Be with your family and/or the ones you love. (Maybe that’s the same people!) Remind yourself of your blessings. All that good stuff.
This message is DIRECTLY opposite to, well, ALL of that. It is an angry and vengeful. It is nonsensical. (The first “sentence” alone is 165 words long!) It is the sort of thing that if your kid posted online, you would worry about him or her!
Just by way of comparison, here’s what President Joe Biden posted on Twitter to commemorate Easter Sunday:

Do I think Trump’s Easter message will change lots of minds among people who say they plan to vote for him in the fall? I do not.
Why not? Because they probably didn’t even see it. They were too focused on Biden celebrating Trans Day of Visibility on Easter (sacrilege!) and banning religiously-themed Easter eggs at the annual White House Easter Egg roll (woke!).
What’s that you say? Neither of those things are remotely true? Trans Day of Visibility ALWAYS falls on March 31 — and it just so happened that this year it was also Easter? And the ban on religious-themed eggs at the Roll has been in place for the last 45 years?
No matter! This woke White House is trying to destroy Easter!
Even though Biden’s message is one of inclusion, hope and joy. While Trump’s Easter message contains this amazing set of words: “HAPPY EASTER TO ALL, INCLUDING CROOKED AND CORRUPT PROSECUTORS AND JUDGES THAT ARE DOING EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO INTERFERE WITH THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 2024, AND PUT ME IN PRISON, INCLUDING THOSE MANY PEOPLE THAT I COMPLETELY & TOTALLY DESPISE.”
Look. I am on record — repeatedly — as saying that it is vitally important to pay attention to what Trump says (and writes). Because that stuff provides us with the best window in a) how he thinks and b) what he will do if he is elected again.
To me then, stuff like Trump’s Easter message is a blaring red siren that he is simply not capable of compassion or empathy with people who disagree with him. To issue a statement like he did on Easter speaks to a deep misunderstanding of what the day means to millions of people around the world — and what it should mean to someone who is as deeply religious as Trump claims to be.
I know his Easter message will change a total of ZERO minds in Trump world. They are going to be for him even if he shoots someone in the middle of 5th Avenue. But, man. Scroll back up and read what he wrote. And then, putting partisanship aside, ask yourself if that is the sort of person you want to be president again.
His cult members may not care if he said /posted those nonsense. But guess who cares and really matters? The Independents who will decide this election and who voted him out of office in 2020.
Amen, and this is the point I make with people I talk to, they are both old. One looks forward and the other looks backward with grudges to hold. I don't want a country that holds grudges. That is when wars happen.
