I spent yesterday afternoon at my sons’ school — watching my younger (he’s 11) sing and play the hand bells at a holiday assembly.
It was, in a word, joyous. The kids were excited and earnest. The parents were beaming and proud. A real affirmation of life. I recommend it.
With the year winding down, our politics is set to go into a slumber for the next few weeks before waking up — big time — come January.

Q: I read SO many stories about how Biden is alienating this or that part of his coalition; for example, he'll piss off immigration advocates if he compromises with Republicans. Or black voters feel he hasn't done enough to advance criminal justice. He can't keep everyone happy. Yet you never hear that about Trump. His supporters don't seem to expect any particular policies, and his speeches are empty bloviating that they just eat up. Why is that?
