GOP's Circular Firing Squad - Citizens Journal Florida

During the weekly gathering of House Republicans on Tuesday morning, Kentucky Rep. Tom Massie made an announcement: He had decided to co-sponsor —along with Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene — a motion to remove Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House.

“You’re not going to be the speaker much longer,” Massie reportedly told Johnson. The Kentucky Republican also tweeted this out:

Quick look at how Johnson received the news:

Mad Men Not Great Bob GIF

Massie’s decision to throw his lot in with Greene, who has been talking about a “motion to vacate” Johnson since before Congress’ Easter recess, adds momentum and some amount of credibility to her effort.

Massie is very, very conservative but not in the same desperate-attention-getter category as Greene. And, he is a member of the Rules committee — a committee that is appointed by the Speaker of the House. (Ouch!)

What’s the mood of the GOP House conference following Massie’s announcement? These two quotes — via Axios — from GOP Members tell the story pretty succinctly.

  1. “It's a clusterfuck.”

  2. “We are screwed.”

Sounds like everything is going to plan!
