Many in the media are calling for VP Harris to have interviews and talk to the press. It’s understandable that they want to be able to press her in real time about the campaign promises she’s been making and where she stands on specific policies. My question is: Why aren’t we hearing the same pressure for trump to do legitimate interviews? Ones where he will be asked hard questions and fact checked in real time, instead of his stream of conscious chats with fox spewing the same old lies and hate and today's dumpster fire of lies that was the MAL campaign speech disguised as a media address?. Seems like the legitimate media outlets are giving him a pass on the same thing they’re pressing her on…
I saw it. His pathetic , rambling, vainglorious, and fiction filled diatribe seemed like a script from James Austin Johnson's SNL impression. Among other highlights, he talked about the crashing stock market on a day when the DOW rose almost 2% & NASDAQ rose nearly 3%; he bemoaned Joe's exit from the race as somehow being unconstitutional ; and he compared his 1/6 incitement to riot rally to MLK's "Dream" speech. I don't know how anyone could watch that performance and then vote for the guy.
Well, the press was there and Trumpty-Dumpty was there, so I guess in the broadest possible terms it was a "press conference".
In reality it was yet another ramble-a-thon by Trump - nothing on policies but plenty on personal grievances, focus on size comparisons (seriously dude, drop the presidential bid and do what every insecure small-penised old man does - buy yourself a Corvette), and nonsensical gibberish.
I will enthusiastically vote for the man this November if he does three things:
1) Take a cognitive abilities test on live TV.
2) Solve the Middle East crisis in just one day - as he's assured us that only he can do.
3) Solve the Ukraine/Russia crisis in just one day - another thing he assured us that only he can do.
Why do we have to wait until the election for him to do items 2 and 3? If he's as much of a mastermind that he tells us he is, DO THEM NOW. He'll be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, get to be Time Magazines Person of the Year, and the Army Corps of Engineers can immediately begin carving his face into Mount Rushmore.
One thing Trumpy NEVER does is put his money (or more accurately, the money he's grifted from others) where his mouth is, or has the Treasury Department misplaced the check from Mexico for the cost of the border wall.
In the meantime, I think your mother is at the top of the cellar stairs, calling you for supper.
They are? I’ve totally missed them making those calls just like I missed her doing them. She’ll avoid any non-scripted messup opportunities until the last possible moment because it’s smart politics. She saw how Biden got a free pass on age for so long, why would she engage until necessary?
Hi Chris, we kept hearing about how good Trump's campaign managers are and how disciplined the campaign was. But ever since Biden has dropped out of the race, it really doesn't feel that way.
Were they only perceived as being good and disciplined because they were running against an 81-year-old man no one wanted to be president anymore?
Campaign managers like baseball managers are only as good as their team. It’s pretty tough to run a disciplined , coherent campaign when your team consists of an angry know-nothing narcissist and a fraudulent tyro
The Harris Bump is real, and the boost in Democrat enthusiasm is massive. But Harris hasn't had to answer any tough questions so far -- even her "confrontation" with the protesters didn't force her to take a stand on the issue. Would you favor an arms embargo with Israel? How would your policy differ from Biden's? Would you meet with Netanyahu as President? I think she'll keep it locked down until the convention, but can she really do this all the way to November?
Given that something like 150,000,000 people will likely vote, and that most are not political junkies - What percentage of voters do you think are informed? And by informed, maybe we could use a scale like this:
High: No other interest or hobbies, has read Project 2025 and old States of the Union from President Taft
Medium High: Reads Cillizza, saw the Debate, knows the name of at least one of their US Senators
Medium: Clicks on the occasional political link from X, knows if they are registered to vote, 50/50 could pick our their US Representative from a list of two
Medium Low: Is aware there are two political parties, knows that Biden was replaced on the Democratic ticket, has no idea who the VP candidates are
Low: Has seen the bloody ear picture, may or may not yet know this is a presidential election year, could not name the any of the three branches of government
I've read that most low-information voters make their decision based on "vibes" from a candidate ("Would you want to have a beer with that guy?") than ideology. Do you agree with this? If so, doesn't this render the Republican attack on Walz as "dangerously liberal" pretty ineffective since he codes more as Coach Taylor/Ted Lasso?
With the energy in the Harris campaign I assume the Dems that were leaning RFK are coming back… how do you see RFK impacting Trump in the swing states?
You mean the " basement strategy" that Biden used to eject Trump from the White House in 2020? Well since it worked well in 2020 I would advise Harris to adopt the same strategy. Look, Harris is going to hold multiple Pressors on her terms
Thanks for asking these questions since I think they get to the "next phase" of this whirlwind process. I'm wondering whether she'll go for written interview, tv special, tv town hall, or something else once she heads to the press (which she should do pronto!).
She just got started. Plenty of time for everything. But you seem to have forgotten some recent history. She agreed to the previously set ABC interview. He pulled out and tried to move to Fox. Now that he’s behind, Trump is begging for debates. His performance today showed he is now running scared
Do you think the RWM attacks on Walz' military record could blow up in their faces. He did serve honorably for 24 years and their guy is a draft dodger.
A follow up to my comment to another post: why are so skeptical about North Carolina being in play? Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson -- the GOP candidate for governor -- is such a far right extremist he makes Trump look mainstream. Don't you think that will have an impact on Republican voters either sitting it out or showing up to vote against him and, as long as they're there, weighing in on Trump vs. Harris?

President Trump was live just this afternoon answering questions. You might have missed it.

Yes, he was and it was the same stuff, different day with a few extra added insults.
Well, the press was there and Trumpty-Dumpty was there, so I guess in the broadest possible terms it was a "press conference".

The White Sox manager: That's what I said!

Chris - in your opinion, does Donald Trump understand the distinction between political asylum vs. insane asylum?
LOL!

Congratulations on asking the Question of the Year! Though I’d point out the obvious: there are more than Two political parties! (Signed, Medium High)

Why isn't it a bigger story that DJT said that severely disabled people should just die?
With the energy in the Harris campaign I assume the Dems that were leaning RFK are coming back… how do you see RFK impacting Trump in the swing states?
What does Allan Lichtman think now?
Thinks Harris has it, marginally

Why hasn’t VP Harris taken any questions?
Is she adopting the JB basement strategy?
Is she afraid of her previous liberal policies being exposed?
Is she just that bad thinking on her feet?
Lots and lots to explore here.’
Thx!

I agree. She has to do this just to remove this MAGAt talking point. It's nonsense, but let's stop giving them ammunition.
She's busy out campaigning, unlike the former fat load who's hanging out at MAL. Lazy candidate, lazy president.
Give her time. She's enjoying her honeymoon.
Good point. He has one event all week, and it’s in Montana , a solid red state
She just got started. Plenty of time for everything. But you seem to have forgotten some recent history. She agreed to the previously set ABC interview. He pulled out and tried to move to Fox. Now that he’s behind, Trump is begging for debates. His performance today showed he is now running scared
Does this shorter campaign season have implications for future elections?

Chris, why doesn't the press ask DJT why he continues to purposely mispronounce KH name?
Is there a scenario where the electoral college could get reset to not favor the Republicans?
Hi Chris, Do you think Trump is kind of giving up even though he is now going to debate Harris?
