The president of the United States and the richest man in the world sat for an hour-long interview — together! — with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Tuesday night.
It was, um, something else.
I went through the whole transcript line by line. And I pulled out the lines — from Donald Trump and Elon Musk — that you need to see. (Musk’s lines are noted “MUSK.”)
This post is behind the paywall. These “lines” posts take a significant amount of time and energy. And I am the only person in the media doing this sort of forensic examination of Trump’s words.

To the Lines!
“Well, I love the president. I just want to be clear about that.” [MUSK]
And away we go!
“It's nice, the way he said that, you know? There's something nice about it.”
Me, when my 15 year old tells me I am “not that bad.”
“I mean, I think the way to think of me is like, I'm a technologist, and I try to make technologies that improve the world and make life better.” [MUSK]
Same.
“I'm here to provide the president with technology support.” [MUSK]
He’s, uh, doing a lot more than that. Last time I checked, tech support folks don’t take a machete to the federal work force….
“Actually, Elon called me. He said, you know, they're trying to drive us apart. I said, absolutely. No, they said, we have breaking news. Donald Trump has ceded control of the presidency to Elon Musk. President Musk will be attending a cabinet meeting tonight at 8:00”
The media reported that Musk took over as president? And held a Cabinet meeting? Man I need to pay WAY closer attention.
“Because I think nobody in history has ever gotten more bad publicity than me.”
Mel Gibson would like a word.
“I could do the greatest things -- I get 98 percent bad publicity. I could do outside of you a few of your very good friends, right? It's like the craziest thing.”
“I could do outside of you a few of your very good friends, right?”
