Donald Trump called into Hugh Hewitt’s talk radio show Monday — ostensibly to commemorate the 1-year anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel.
But, because Trump is Trump, he, uh, ranged widely across a variety of topics in the news. And some things not in the news!
Hewitt helpfully posted the transcript of the interview on his website. I went through it line by line and pulled out the stuff you need to see.
This is one of a handful of posts I put behind my paywall. These posts take significant time and effort. But going through the words of our presidential candidates (and politicians more generally) is critically important. And I am the only political journalist doing this work!

To the lines!
“It was a horrible day. It should have never happened. It would never have happened, guaranteed.”
Trump’s assertion here is that Hamas would never have attacked Israel on October 7, 2023 if he had been president. Which is, of course, a hypothetical that is impossible to disprove (or prove). And away we go!
“Even Democrats admit it. I saw some Congressman the other day. He said that wouldn’t have happened.”
It will surprise you not at all, gentle reader, that I could not find this “Congressman” of which Trump speaks.
“But it did happen, and it happened as bad as there was, it was just an incredibly bad thing.”
“It happened as bad as there was.”
“I think everything they do is the opposite.”
“You know what you do with [Biden]? I realized it the other day. You could be one of the greatest foreign policy presidents. All you do is listen to what he says and do the opposite.”
I mean, this really is straight out of the George Costanza playbook.
“Everything is wrong. Everything is wrong.”
USA! USA!
“We had a strong agreement, and if they didn’t do the agreement, and they didn’t, so what we would do is we’d hold them in abeyance, and oh, we did numbers.”
He’s talking about the Afghanistan withdrawal. And, also, numbers.
“Remember, I called a child up to the stage one time during a rally, a little kid. He was five or six years old. And I said, I gave him the facts. I said so would you take the military out first or last? Sir, I’d take the military out last.”
