Just days after his conviction on all 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments made to a porn star with whom he is alleged to have had an extramarital affair — I mean that is a MOUTHFUL! — Donald Trump sat for his first interview with his home team: Fox News.
This was an even more friendly setting than usual for Trump. The three interviewers — Pete Hegseth, Rachel Campos Duffy and Will Cain — are all ardent defenders of the former president. A Murderer’s Row of journalists this was not.
I got my hands on the transcript of the interview and went through it line by line — pulling out the stuff you really need to see.
I am the ONLY person — as best I can tell — who is doing this sort of work in the political space right now. And I am doing it because I believe firmly in the importance of closely tracking what politicians say — as the best way to tell what they will DO when in office.
This is hard work. And I need your support to keep doing it. Please consider becoming a paid subscriber today. In addition to getting access to all of my content, you ALSO get:

To the lines!
“I watch you all the time. And same thing that you do, you fight for your freedom. You fight for your country.”
I (still) don’t think people grasp how much TV Donald Trump watches.
“These people are sick. They're sick. They're deranged.”
Trump has been doing this for a while now — suggesting that people who disagree with him are mentally flawed or sick in some way.
“You know, all my life, I watched politics.”
True!
“So, we had probably maybe the worst area in the whole country for me, you know, in terms of vote.”
Trump is saying that he lost at trial because it was in New York City, which is heavily Democratic. But he has also said very recently he is going to carry New York in the fall. So…..
“I'm probably, I guess, the first presidential nominee and the leader, the lead -- leading crooked Joe by a lot, that's not allowed to talk.”
Trump is ahead of Biden by less than a point nationally, according to the Real Clear Politics average.
“And they are scared and they're great people, very entrepreneurial, great energy.”
Donald Trump on Hispanic voters: “Great energy.”
“They've always liked me, and I've always liked them. You know, I've done well from the beginning.”
Trump got 28% of the vote among Hispanics in 2016. He got 32% in 2020. The best a modern GOP candidate for president has done among Hispanic voters is in 2004 when George W. Bush won 44%.
“Now I'm leading -- I think I'm leading over this guy, this guy that can't put two sentences together that's destroying our country.”
If Trump is suggesting that he is leading Biden among Hispanic voters, that is, um, not accurate.
“And, you know, they have misinformation. Donald Trump is a threat to democracy. It's just words. He doesn't even know what it means, but it's like their slogan, I'm a threat to democracy.”
I will note here that only one of the two candidates for president in 2024 denied the election results and helped foment a riot at the U.S. Capitol to stop the counting of the electoral college votes. And it’s not Joe Biden.
“Then you had a jury that was, you know, from a certain persuasion, would have been hard to do no matter what.”
Remember that Trump’s lawyers were an integral part of the jury selection process — and had numerous potential jurors disqualified. So, this is a bogus argument.
