While the eyes of the political world were focused on the Democratic National Convention in Chicago Monday, Donald Trump offered up some counter-programming — a campaign speech in the critical swing state of Pennsylvania.
I got a hold of the transcript and went through it line by line. What I found is below.

To the lines!
“My trade representative, Ambassador Robert Lighthizer, who's fantastic at a thing called trade.”
“A thing called trade.” And away we go!
“We did very well at trade, and you were fantastic.”
“At trade.” Really killing it so far.
“And we've had great success, as you know, politically and otherwise in Pennsylvania. And we expect to have it again.”
Trump won Pennsylvania in 2016. He lost it in 2020. Right now he and Vice President Kamala Harris are tied — or close to it — in the state.
“We're going to do it like nobody else has ever been able to do it.”
Trump is talking, specifically, about job creation here. But this is basically the slogan for his entire campaign. His entire political life. And, really, just his entire life.
“And we were doing that four years ago and starting to do really well. And then we had to stop for an unknown reason.”
I legit have no idea what he is talking about.
“But under my leadership, we created more than a half a million manufacturing jobs in less than three years.”
He created 483,000 manufacturing jobs. And lost 237,000 manufacturing jobs. (Read the facts here.)
“Everyone was better off when you had a gentleman named President Donald J. Trump at the helm. Does anybody know him? Whoever he may be.”
So deeply odd.
“I kept every single promise I made to the workers of Pennsylvania and to every other place within our country.”
Ahem.
“And I stood up to China like never before, bringing in hundreds of billions of dollars when no other president had gotten literally 10 cents from China. And I brought in hundreds of billions of dollars from China.”
He’s talking about tariffs here. And, no, he still doesn’t understand how tariffs work.
“We passed the largest tax cuts in history, the largest regulation cuts in history, and built the greatest economy in the history of the world.”
None of these claims is true. Read this on taxes. And this on regulations. And this on the economy.
“You had everything was good.”
