As part of a seeming detente with Fox News Channel, Donald Trump has been doing more interviews with the network recently.
The latest example came Sunday when Trump sat down with Fox media reporter Howard Kurtz.
Because I think it is critically important to document what Trump says — it’s the best indicator of what he will do as president — I went through the transcript. The lines you need to see are below.

To the lines!
“Well, I'd love to get along with them, and I'd love that they were straight down the middle, and, you know, covering the stories that should be covered.”
This is Trump on getting along with the media. The bit to pay attention to is his assertion that he could get along with the media if they covered the stories that “should be covered” — meaning the stories he wants covered. Trump has never really grasped what an independent media actually, you know, does. And away we go!
“The Border is a Horror Show, and so many other things.”
“So many other things.”
“I expect to look and see the CBS Evening News or NBC or ABC, and I turn on it, and they have nothing about very important subjects. And that's fake news also in its own way.”
One important note here: NO politician — and certainly no modern president — consumes as much news as Donald Trump. The guy watches a massive amount of TV.
“I get a lot of people. They don't say fake news. They don't mind that as much. They really don't like enemy of the people.”
“But when you're using public airwaves and you don't have -- you cover a candidate for months, you cover him as negatively as possible or her -- could be her, and all of a sudden, that candidate wins in a landslide and it's very exciting, and everybody wants to watch and you don't cover his speech.”
Again, Trump shows here he doesn’t understand how an independent media works. He wants to be the one making calls on what is covered and why.
