The 41 wildest lines from Donald Trump's speech at the Libertarian party convention
Whoa boy.
Donald Trump spoke at the national Libertarian Party convention over the weekend. It, um, didn’t go well.
Here’s how CNN summed it up:
Former President Donald Trump was loudly and consistently booed throughout his speech Saturday at the Libertarian Party’s national convention, particularly when he asked attendees to “nominate me or at least vote for me.”
The heckling began the moment the former president took the stage, and some of his supporters in the room tried to drown out the boos with chants of “We want Trump.”
Yikes.
Trump allies quickly rushed to insist that the former president was brave and confident for going into a hostile room and asking for their votes.
“Well done, President Trump. I think you’ve won the hearts and minds of a whole lot of libertarians out there and a whole lot of other Americans,” said Utah Sen. Mike Lee, who spoke before Trump at the convention.
Given the amount of attention the speech got, I decided to go through the whole thing — line by line — and pick out what you needed to see from it. I am indebted to the good people at The Listening Post, who are doing amazing work in tracking and transcribing the daily conversation around politics.
This work takes time but, I think, is critically important — since what Trump says is the best indicator of what he will do. And I am the only one going through Trump’s speeches and interviews with a fine-toothed comb! I need your support to keep doing it! Become a paid subscriber today!
To the lines!
“A lot of people ask why I came to speak at this Libertarian convention, and you know, it's an interesting question, isn't it?”
Why yes, yes it is. And away we go!
“But we're gonna have a lot of fun.”
I wouldn’t be so sure of that.
“I'm here to talk to you about the rise of left-wing fascism in the country and to need to defeat the corrupt and incompetent tyrant in theWhite House Crooked
Joe Biden.”
“Fascism.” “Tyrant.” Political rhetoric matters. And this is deeply inflammatory stuff.
“[Biden] is the worst president by far in the history of the United States.”
“You're gonna like me. Nobody better than me and we just got the full NRA the strongest endorsement they've ever given.”
How would one objectively rate the strength of NRA endorsements, exactly?
