Donald Trump went to Michigan this weekend to speak to young conservative voters at a Turning Point event. (Turning Point is the organization founded by Charlie Kirk, the controversial pro-Trumpist.)
I got my hands on the transcript of his speech. And I went through it line-by-line to pick out the stuff you need to see.
I am the ONLY person doing this sort of close reading of what politicians say. It’s time consuming but, I think, very valuable as it’s the best indicator we have of what they will do if they get into office.

“At the end of the speech I’ll be taking some questions. So this is different than Joe Biden, he doesn’t take any questions.”
[rubs hands together gleefully] And away we go!
“Matt Gaetz, very popular guy, Matt Gaetz.”
“Hansel, so hot right now, Hansel.” — Jacobim Mugatu
“And you all know my Don, he’s out there working, he’s such a good boy.”
“My Don.”
“And Kimberly Guilfoyle, I heard her speak, they really gave some good ones.”
Uh.
“We have a man who’s got a really successful show, everybody watches it. I watch it as often as I can, and he’s a smart guy, and he’s actually got a big heart but I won’t tell people that, because I’ll ruin his reputation, Steve Bannon.”
“Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my Presidency. When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind. Steve was a staffer who worked for me after I had already won the nomination by defeating seventeen candidates, often described as the most talented field ever assembled in the Republican party.” — Donald Trump, 2018
“But the American people were far better off under a gentleman named President Donald J. Trump. Have you heard of him? Have you heard of him?”
What a line. I love when a politician goes third person.
“Forget about his pillows, he is the greatest purchaser of advertising in the history of America. If he could buy my ads, I’d be blanketing the airways with it.”
“MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell Says He Has ‘No Money Left’ To Pay Lawyers In Election Lawsuits”
“I met a lot of people backstage just now, and they were all saying, ‘Sir, we were doing so much better four years ago, everybody was.’”
“And I live by the motto, ‘Promises made, promises kept.’ I kept all my promises. I kept them all.”
He broke more than 50% of his promises.
“Under my leadership, we created half a million manufacturing jobs in three short years.”
“I got the man of the year in Michigan years ago, long before politics, like 12, 13 years ago.”
He has never been named Michigan man of the year.
