Most politicians celebrate Veteran’s Day by sending out a tweet supporting the military and those who have served. Some might even march in a parade (or two).
Donald Trump is not most politicians.
He traveled to New Hampshire over the weekend to give a speech ostensibly celebrating Veteran’s Day. And what a speech it was.
“Remember in school when you’d read about Hitler & Mussolini and all the targeted, shockingly violent language they used before rising to power,” asked Jim Messina, who managed Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign, on Twitter X. “Trump’s NH speech was from the same authoritarian propaganda playbook. And everyone should be talking about it.”
I totally agree! I decided to go through the full transcript of Trump’s speech — thanks to C-SPAN for making it possible — and pulled out the lines you need to see. They’re below.
“Your first in the nation primary. I wonder who kept you there, Trump Trump.”
Just to be clear: New Hampshire owes Donald Trump. Bigly. And away we go!
“I said, ‘I thought you were gonna be with [Ron] Sanctimonious. No way. No way, sir. I'll give you whatever you want, sir.’”
“Looking up in the sky and seeing some beautiful signals coming down.”
Trump is talking here about a night he spent with families who lost loved ones in Afghanistan. Beautiful signals. Coming down.
“They could do everything up to murder and the way they treated some of these people were just horrible people.”
In which Trump says government workers murdered veterans. Nothing to see here, folks!
“Those doctors, they know how to make money, don't they? Some of them are money machines and some are just really good doctors and really love everyone in this room and all of your relatives.”
Doctors love your relatives!
