Any story that includes both Laura Loomer, the self-appointed loyalty enforcer for Donald Trump, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s future political ambitions is a story I want to read.
Politico’s Adam Wren has just that story this morning — with an account of how Loomer is targeting a top RFK Jr. aide named Stefanie Spear because, wait for it, Spear is working to position the Health and Human Services Secretary for a presidential run in 2028.
“I think that there’s a clear intention by Stefanie Spear to utilize her position to try to lay the groundwork for a 2028 RFK presidential run,” Loomer alleges. Asked how she knew that, Loomer cited “sources in HHS.”
Spear did not return calls or texts but looped in a senior HHS leader who called Playbook.
The senior HHS official did not deny that Kennedy is weighing a presidential bid.
A Trump administration official told Dasha that they “would not be surprised if [Kennedy is] thinking about” a 2028 bid. “But,” this person said, “I don’t think anyone thinks it’s a real threat.”
Wait, what?
Go back and read the second and third paragraphs of that excerpt again. Spear didn’t comment but she looped in a “senior HHS leader” who didn’t deny that RFK Jr. was considering running for president in 2028!
I mean, is RFK Jr himself the “senior HHS leader”? If it’s not him, who is this person? Inquiring minds want to know!
Look, no one should be surprised that RFK Jr. wants to be president. As I often say, the strongest indicator of whether someone will run for president in the future is if they have run for president in the past. No one — and I mean NO ONE — loses that itch.
And, the RFK Jr. forces — led by Spear — are doing the sorts of things to get him ready to run for president. Most notably, RFK Jr. forces held an organizing call earlier this year. As Axios reported at the time:
A 2028 presidential campaign wasn't explicitly discussed, but two people with knowledge of the call came away believing it was a step toward another campaign for Kennedy, whose long-shot run in 2024 wound up helping Donald Trump to victory.
Could Kennedy matter in a 2028 race? Sure! His Make America Healthy Again movement is a real thing in the online influencer community and he is probably the second or third most famous person in the Trump administration — behind Trump himself and, maybe, Vice President JD Vance.
Do I think he would actually be the party’s nominee? I very much doubt it. But, like, Donald Trump is currently in his 2nd term as president. So I am not in the business of ruling things out in politics any more!
