The first time I heard Gregory Alan Isakov was when he opened for Josh Ritter maybe a decade ago.
I was drawn then (and now) to the quiet beauty of his music — each song is like a window into a world of his own making.
Isakov released his first album in 5 years this week. It’s called “Appaloosa Bones” and it’s terrific.
There’s a lot of the new Isakov album in this week’s playlist — which I am opening up to all subscribers because, well, I feel like it. (Normally this playlist is for PAID subscribers only.)

Lovely song that, 'Appaloosa Bones', by an artist I'm unfamiliar with. Time to make myself so. So many excellent artists in the Americana genre, some of which I know, many I don't. If you're not yet familiar with this podcast, head off to https://500songs.com/ and catch Andrew Hickey's wonderful analysis of 'The Weight' and the early history of The Band, who pretty much invented Americana. Any music lover who has not yet discovered Hickey's "A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs" is really missing out.
