Inspired by last week’s all-Wilco playlist, I am doing it again!
My featured artist this week is Sufjan Stevens, whose new album “Javelin” comes out tomorrow. (It is already winning RAVE reviews.)
Stevens’ music first came to my attention in 2005 when he released “Illinois” — one of what he initially planned to be 50 state-themed albums. (He only made two.)
His music since then has been all over the map — from the wildly experimental “The Age of Adz” to the quiet (and brilliant) “Carrie & Lowell.” (Heck, he even made a Christmas album!)
(Sidebar: Stevens made national news recently when he revealed he was battling Guillain-Barre Syndrome.)
Below, 15 of my favorite tunes by Stevens.
As always, this weekly playlist is offered as a special thank you to the more than 1,200(!!!!) people who are paid subscribers to this newsletter. I would like to thank each one of you personally, but this is the best I can do — for now!
If you are considering becoming a paid subscriber, do it! First of all, it supports my journalism. Second, I am going to be offering more and more of my content exclusively for paid subscribers as we near the one-year mark(!) of this newsletter. Third, I would really appreciate it.
