They’re still around in public life, Cathleen. Some of them were yelled at by Bondi yesterday. Some of them (CO Sen Michael Bennet) are leaving Congress to run for state office. And there’s Cory Booker. And yeah, maybe I missed a couple (smiles) 😊
Unfortunately, it was a master class on everything that is wrong with politics in America.
She could not exert a single muscle movement to turn around and acknowledge those victims. Of course, nobody expected that she would show an ounce of compassion or courage.
This entire episode has pulled back the curtain on the so-called party of family values. The only family values they have is trying to get as many young girls into their bedroom.
I believe that clips of Pam's performance yesterday will eventually be as famous as the, have you no shame Hearings from the 1950s.
It only continues as long as the voters let it. If they punish the Guardians of Pedophiles at the ballot box enough, some semblance of civility and basic human decency will come back.
The attitude and approach of these clowns may remain, but it's up to the voters as to whether they govern. They're proving every day how unfit they are for office. After the midterms, you'll see how quickly these theatrics go away on the right when they see they've gotten their asses handed to them. The MAGA base isn't enough to win a national election. Anyone who wants to outlast Trump will realize this in November.
I agree. Bondi is a lickspittle putting on a show for Thug 1 in the White House. They all get their marching orders from the top. It's up to the voters to get rid of these creeps.
Possibly. But there is also the possibility that the post-Trump revulsion will be so strong (similar to post-Hitler Germany's) that his "style" will go into dark eclipse for a generation or more. Just because it's what the younger generations have been fed doesn't mean it will wind up being the food they cook for themselves.
2) Ensure like-minded decent people never fail to vote, and
3) Draw attention (in any small way that each of us individually can) to the utter indecency, lack of morality, and 'family values' hypocrisy that today's Trumpists embody.
I suppose "PRAY" would be a 4th item on this list!!
I'm totally with you on how sick we all are of this nasty show!
I think how badly they get trounced later this year, and in 2028, *might* make a difference in terms of the longevity of this disgusting behavior and lack of accountability. If the Republicans lose BOTH the House AND the Senate in November, even Trump and Stephen Miller (who more and more seems to be the driving force behind policy and attitudes) *may* have to rethink things.
Of course, I could be totally wrong, but I *do* have to maintain *some* modicum of hope that We The People *still* have an ability to change course…
I agree with you, but I think the core problem with that approach is that no one except Trump has been effective using it. Trump has a much longer leash then anyone else.
We have the government we deserve. These people reflect the voters. We built this government one brick at a time.
The only way to save the republic is if voters finally look in the mirror and see how ugly it has become.
This is why (much to Dutch's delight, I suspect) Donald Trump will go down as one of the greatest presidents of all time. He finally gave us a true reflection of ourselves.
I don't have a firm opinion but I'm leaning your way. MAGA certainly won't disappear. They are the heirs of Andrew Jackson, the Confederacy, and now the sons and daughters of George Wallace. This strain (stain) of US politics has always been with us. But Trump has become a charismatic, cult like figure over the past decade and MAGA may well be politically diminished when he's gone.
Could it be just as likely a whole generation of people have grown up watching DJT and his ilk, are turned off by their actions and antics, and are learning there must be a better way to be successful in politics?
It seems very few other people have the ability to get away with what Trump does, and how he acts, and when others try to be "mimi-me" and mimic DJT, they fail and shrink into the background.
I am going to remain hopeful DJT, Bondi, Noem, Vance, Hegseth and the others are teaching most people how NOT to be successful at politics, and will drive more people to look for a more collaborative and humane method in order to be successful.
From Miracle on 34th Street - Susan Walker: "I believe... I believe... It's silly, but I believe", or Fred Gailey, "Faith is believing things when common sense tells you not to".
Chris is giving Trump a little too much credit in that “he has inspired a whole generation of politicians on the Republican side”
I have written several times….
Don't forget Rush Limbaugh.
Trump has not had an original idea in his life. He has always been a follower and never a leader.
The MAGA rhetoric, mindset, meanness, racism, misogyny and vicious demagoguery has been around for 25+ years before Trump slithered on the scene as birthed by Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh.
They were all disciples of Rush Limbaugh and reveled in their devotion to his every utterance, calling themselves “Dittoheads” to signal their devotion and agreement with every racist, sexist, demagogic shrillness of Rush, as they (unaware of the hypocrisy) derided anyone outside their clique “sheeple”.
NOTHING that comes out of Trump’s mouth is anything new.
His MAGA Cult was weaned on this stuff. All Trump did was make it his own, and say it out loud….just like the Dittoheads BEGGED the GOP to embrace, while they prayed for the old GOP’s demise.
They finally got their wish and savior in Donald Trump.
It will live on after Trump is gone.
It’s more accurate to say that a lot of us on the “left” have our eyes WIDE OPEN and not only have “fully grappled with” “the combativeness, the bullying, the name calling, the, um, nastiness of Donald Trump” is the center of the SOUL of today’s GOP, but we WARNED everyone this was going to happen.
Yesterday's performance by Pam Bondi was absolutely disgusting. Unfortunately, she has learned from the master. Currently any sense of professionalism or decorum is sadly missing in politics today. To hear her speak to our elected representatives the way she did is beyond my realm to comprehend. I guess you can call me an old guy, but I would never speak to anyone like she did. It's fine to disagree, but speaking in such a disrespectful manner is inexcusable. This is what children and young people are seeing. Hopefully parents and grandparents will step in and teach them that there is a right way to do and say things and there is a wrong way. What we are seeing is the wrong way. I just shake my head in disappointment. Again, it's time to go to the polls and stem the tide of divisiveness and derision. I'll be there for the next election and hope each and every one who wants to go back to a kinder, gentler way will vote those who sow seeds of divisiveness and derision out of office from the local level to the federal government.
These people are responsible for their own attitudes and behaviors, just like Trump is They are racist, antisemitic, misogynistic, etc Call it what it is
Sadly, you’re right. The tone of politics has dramatically changed for the worse. And, it could also be argued that the tone of social interaction in general has become increasingly more volatile and far less civil. You could write a lengthy post about this, Chris. As an aging member of society, I find this extremely disturbing and depressing. It’s not the world we hoped for growing up in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.
I disagree. The general public is sick and tired of name calling, deflection, and bullying. Are you not paying attention to recent elections? My evidence to the contrary of your point.
Maybe I am just foolishly optimistic, but I think what Bondi proved is that Trumpism is non-transferable. You seemed to forget Governor Ron DiSantis. Remember he tried to huff and puff and insult like Trump and it fell flat?
From everything I saw and am now reading about her "performance" Trump's sycophants may try the belligerent style, but it hasn't seemed to go over well with the public (whether it's the voting public remains to be seen). IMO, most Americans expect a certain degree of decorum from our elected officials. She and those like her haven't shown us that degree.
I miss decent, ethical people.
They’re still around in public life, Cathleen. Some of them were yelled at by Bondi yesterday. Some of them (CO Sen Michael Bennet) are leaving Congress to run for state office. And there’s Cory Booker. And yeah, maybe I missed a couple (smiles) 😊
Not to mention Republicans who retired: Jeff Flake, Bob Corker, Mitt Romney, Adam Kinzinger. And others.
Yesterday we watched a master class.
Unfortunately, it was a master class on everything that is wrong with politics in America.

I sure hope you’re right and Chris is wrong. That said, I don’t have a lot of confidence…
Perfectly stated.
The attitude and approach of these clowns may remain, but it's up to the voters as to whether they govern. They're proving every day how unfit they are for office. from your fingertips to God's ears...
How do we change that terrible approach? I am done crying about it! I want respect and integrity to reign supreme again!
1) VOTE
2) Ensure like-minded decent people never fail to vote, and
3) Draw attention (in any small way that each of us individually can) to the utter indecency, lack of morality, and 'family values' hypocrisy that today's Trumpists embody.
I suppose "PRAY" would be a 4th item on this list!!
I'm totally with you on how sick we all are of this nasty show!
I doubt it
Once Trump is gone they and his approach will be done for.
I don’t think so
Chris is right. He's going to be emulated, not discounted.
Not successfully.
How sad is that?
I think how badly they get trounced later this year, and in 2028, *might* make a difference in terms of the longevity of this disgusting behavior and lack of accountability. None of the copies approach his level of charisma. They have the anger and bluster but none of the “swagger.”
I think this is the key! Trump, for all of his possible dementia and other issues, is at heart a showman and carnival barker. He needs to be loved.
JD and Miller have none of that ability and the charm certainly is wearing thin on the American people.
I agree with you, but I think the core problem with that approach is that no one except Trump has been effective using it. Trump has a much longer leash then anyone else.

I have some suggestions for Bondi's burn book and would welcome others:
"We have proof you have never paid a parking ticket from 2009! You are a scofflaw! How dare you question me!"
"Here is a video of you not picking up your dog's waste!" [Rolls tape]
"We have video of you crossing the street against the traffic light!" [Rolls tape]
"Your credit card has been paid late twenty times over the past ten years!"
"Your bias is clear - you spent a week in Puerto Rico just this past January!"
[For a female] "Your roots are showing! That's an ugly haircut! You're not even a three!"
I disagree. The general public is sick and tired of name calling, deflection, and bullying. Are you not paying attention to recent elections? My evidence to the contrary of your point.
As I told someone in a different group let's wait and see how women vote this year
