Trump is a sick and evil man who should not be allowed near the presidency. I am terribly angry about the authoritarian bent of Republicans. The way they have been banning the rights of parents of Trans kids is maddening. And women in America? Republicans are trying to turn us into cows in a barn. They will be coming for birth control next if we don't stop them in their tracks. We will have to fight Republicans at the ballot box. Vote!!!!!

But he knows his way around the use of magnets on Aircraft Carriers.

If Independents aren't listening to Trump's mad-lib off-topic meanderings, and consider Uncle Joe too old, there will be a World of Trouble they'll bury us in.

Yes, drop water on the magnets and they don't work. Riiiiiight.......

What Chris describes here is the very likely outcome if Donald J Trump loses in 2024. His “associates” in Congress stand at the ready to overthrow the will of the people. Not included above is my projection that, in order to make their forecast of a problem election into a reality, they’ll start by creating havoc in polling places around the country. It is going to be a mess even to HAVE an election. Our one saving grace will be that Joe Biden will still be president, and he can use the tools at his disposal to quell the crazy, but the aftermath of that will be dreadful for our country. These elected Republicans DO NOT CARE WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO to take power. The fact that a majority of America is sick to death of Trump, and MAGA, and elected officials that refuse to do their jobs and instead spend their time posturing and fawning over a pudgy, cognitively challenged racist, misogynist, homophobic cretin..might mean that they lose elections, too. And while that is a good thing , it also means that they have even more reason to challenge free and fair results. Strap in, will be wild.

Well stated. For those of us that care about this country and democracy, it will require strapping in. I still am amazed at the millions of people who are either in the cult of Trump or will vote for him regardless of knowing he is a menace to our country (and the world).

I'm afraid that at a minimum, you're very close to right. What percentage of the military and the police will go to Trump's side? And the general population?

My wife wants to move to Portugal. (Boy, I picked a great time to become disabled.)

The police and military here are a wild card, many Trumpists in the ranks, so there could be significant breakaway activity. Portugal may be just the ticket. It is on my list, too.

Stefanik is running hard for that veep spot. I don’t understand why since he tried to have the last one hanged. But, go for it, Elise! I can’t imagine what actions the next one is going to have to take to avoid his and the mob’s wrath.

She’s my rep, so the upside to her getting the nod is I get rid of her. Hallelujah! The downside is if they get elected I might end up in a gulag. I’m one of the letter writers that Liz Cheney said in her book Stefanik was so upset about.

If, God willing, Trump loses wtf. Is the Republican Party just going to election lie forever? Obviously Trump just becomes their nominee until he dies. As long as he wants to keep running. So, Trump 2028, 2032, 2036...

Admittedly, a gamble. But, as long as they lose we all get rid of her. At least until 2028. 😏

Thanks. I went and read that. I kinda totally forget them after they’re sent.

I feel a bit guilty knowing they upset Elise so much, tho. 😅

You upset Stefanik? Dude, you absolutely Rule!

What did people in her district do when, overnight, she flipped from normie to ultra-hard MAGAt?

Expand full comment

I’m only going by Liz Cheney saying she was angry over the letters. It’d been hilarious if Liz had had a Snickers to offer her. Might’ve been hangry.

We’re the largest district east of the Mississippi so it’s probably hard to get a feel. It’s kind of a news desert anyway so most people are probably informed by FB memes. 😉

Are the voters in your district anywhere near the level of dissatisfaction with Stefanik as the voters in CO-3 are with Bobert? As you know, even the Republicans in CO-3 are so fed up with Bobert's antics of self-importance and dismissal of local concerns, that Bobert may not have even made it past the primary. Is Stefanik in any danger of not being re-elected - which is why she's openly auditioning for the VP slot. Good Gawd - is she playing the long game, laying out the ground-work to run for President in 2028?

Boebert only won by like 500 votes last time. Stefanik won handily against a Democrat who was a former CIA officer and ran a really good campaign. I don’t know how Boebert’s district skews, but NY-21 is ruby red.

ES is in no danger of not being re-elected. She has a primary challenger who has done nothing and has no money anyway. Stefanik has mega millions.

IMO anyway, she’s not really that great a politician. She parachuted in here from Albany. If she wanted to prove her chops she should’ve run there.

What’s really funny is to go on her twitter feeds and see that a lot of the MAGAts still don’t trust her. I want to start the rumor that she’s going to do an Antonin Scalia on Trump using a myPillow.

A pertinent quote:

“Whatever may have been my political opinions before, I have but one sentiment now: that is, we have a government, and laws, and a flag, and they must all be sustained. There are but two parties now: traitors and patriots. And I want hereafter to be ranked with the latter.”

One vital point from 2020, the supreme court turned down every foolish case the orange menace brought forth. The 2024 election will be the most litigated in history. The House will try to throw the election, but they will flail and fail.

I agree completely and would go one step further. If Trump does lose, will absolutely see violence, stoked by people like Stefanik and their cheering sections at Fox, OANN, Newsmax, and the right wing talk shows/websites (Mark Levin, Joe Rogan, Parler, TruthSocial, etc.), and it will make January 6, 2021, look like a garden party.

It's going to be a very rough ride..................

Good piece again Chriss and it is getting quite worrisome. Ironically, (or worse) those same people keep saying not to remove this guy from the ballots and let the voters decide but the voters did decide in 2020 and we know what happened. And when they (the voters) decide in 2024 and this guy looses again, they will not accept that decision.

I wholeheartedly believe you are correct in your asessment here. We are in for a chaotic last half of year...wuth first half just the warm up. Scary times. Don't see anyone winning in this envoronment.

A difference this year is, when Trump loses, “Hang Kamala Harris” for doing her duty won’t lead to an insurrection

Chris, I agree with you 100% and think it’s going to get a whole lot worse, before it gets better. I do not think we have seen anything yet, which is extremely worrying. I just don’t see any of this ending well. We, as a country, need to be prepared for anything and everything to hold this country together. Buckle up.

As a Pennsylvanian, I remain appalled at the attacks on our elections. It's beyond hypocritical for a Republican to complain about changes to our election laws approved by the REPUBLICAN-LED legislature. Our voting systems remain safe and no amount of lies from Republicans will change that.

Suffice it to say that Stephanic has become a grandstanding ass, who brings absolutely no serious policy ideas to elected position in the House.

Instead, she's vying as Chief Harlot of Trumplandia, albeit she is "not really" the Dictator's type.

But with the "Dude Looks Like a Lady" Taylor-Green busy setting up "Pro-J6-Felon" rallies, and Bobo Boebert staging another type of public event --- punching her ex-husband in the face---Stephie can fill the vacuum of sycophantic crassness.

And do not think for a second Roger Stone, Steve Bannon, Kash Patel, Steve Miller, Michael Flynn, Jeffrey Clark and the other Trump henchmen have not already begun to “war game” all sorts of potential actions based upon numerous possible scenarios. They will be planning actions if Trump wins, or more frightening, if Trump loses, and I would expect them to be aggressive. Stone has always been a proponent of military action, even suggesting Trump use the Insurrection Act to send troops into Portland in the summer of 2020.

On top of their planning, I sense we have foreign powers (e.g., Russia, China & Iran) who will also be flooding social media with disinformation and deepfakes to stir up the divisions even more.

No, 2024 isn’t going to end well...

Expand full comment

This being said, my intent is to suggest not only do we need to do everything possible to ensure democracy remains intact, however, there also needs to be some planning as to what confusion and violence to expect if/when Trump loses, and how the impact might be minimized. This is planning which was not done for January 6th because no one thought a sitting President would do the things he did. Now we know better...

I can only hope that people in the White House are considering all these possibilities as well. They are the ones who need to be prepared, after all. 😞😳

Trump is like a 4 year old who cries after losing a Candy Land game. You cheated..waah! Ridiculous.

Also- the fact that is was a GOP led legislature that passed absentee voting reform in PA, and it was pre-covid, exemplifies how far removed the MAGA movement is from the Republican Party.
