I'll be curious to see if Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum ask the candidates if the 2020 presidential election was stolen, but since they work for FOX, I won't hold my breath. If that question was asked, I'm sure most of the responses would be, "Joe Biden is the president" (without answering the actual question).

As much of a politics junkie as I am, I just don’t have the patience for watching this debate live (though your live commenting does seem attractive). I’ll wait ‘til tomorrow for your synopsis and the various clips of the significant moments and do my “catch-up” then....

Not holding my breath that anything substantial will be said tonight. Lots of mudslinging, nothing of substance. I just don’t see how any of them will get anywhere close to Trump, which makes this all somewhat irrelevant.

Elaine,

I'm shocked, shocked, that you would think the Republican Party actually has policy ideas...they of 2020, whose statement on the party's politics was "Yeah, whatever that guy says." while pointing to Trump.

😂 Very sad.

I agree that Chris Christie may not be liked by about 60% of the Republicans and he could not possibly win that number of Republicans not liking him. This is also true for Trump and the General election population where about 64% of the population have already said they will not vote for Trump and this is before he got his 4th criminal indictments!

Hypothetical match-up to consider: Biden vs Christie. I say hypothetical, because I can't see anyway for Christie to win the Republican primary. That little hurdle aside, I could see some of the independents who voted for Biden over Trump in 2020, being inclined towards Christie over Biden. Biden's approval numbers are far from good, which could push the independent swing voters away. The 60% of the Republicans who don't like Christie would then have to decide, when push comes to shove, are they going to vote party line (as would be expected in a highly partisan climate like this), cross party lines and vote for the guy they hate running against the other guy they hate (unlikely), or sit out the election altogether. if enough R's stay home in November, Christie could have a chance...

Again this is all hypothetical, because there's very little chance Christie can win the primary.

Smart observations, Chris. I think, for example, that you are on point as to Haley's approach.BTW, I remain baffled by her lack of traction. The Rs would be smart to run a woman, and she is polished enough to woo back middle of the road voters. Of course, if the Rs were smart, they wouldn't be overwhelmingly in support of -- and trusting in -- a notorious enemy of democracy, malignant narcissist , and congenital liar. I also contemplate blunt attacks - and some lies- re Hunter and frequent mentions of Biden's age. Both issues are not going away and present real challenges for Ds

I believe I read that Fox will have videos of Trump and other ways to have him there without being there. Clearly they want a video Trump vs others sort of fight.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't bother with this nonsense, but since I haven't seen a WWF bout in decades, I'm looking forward to the New Jersey Big Man (no, not Clarence Clements) going totally nuclear on the Caudillo (deer in the headlights) de DeSantistan, who will day-dreaming about a runner coming into home plate, spikes-up, at the Yale baseball field as being a better alternative.

Number 5 is far and away the most important question in this debate for the future of the nation.

Too bad there are only two Republicans scheduled tonight- DeSantis and Ramaswamy. The rest of them missed that they were either kicked out of the party or were actively seen as traitors to the party. So that is funny.
