Chris....i'm sorry to see .you took the bait and now keep this crazy idea in the news. His goal was to just torment the "libs"

I sort of agree. But I DO think that he wants to avoid being a lame duck!

He's already lame...lol

I agree, Chris.

When you end up having to bow to him - whose the lame duck?

During the campaign people warned that if he won this would have been the last election. That is still the case. Instead of discussing the likelihood of a constitutional amendment to let him runs third time (a waste of our time reading this) we should write about the ways that the next election could be called off. “Elections are rigged, so why have them”. “Elections are divisive so for unity and peace, call them off.” “As president I have a mandate to stay in office”.

As for it being unconstitutional, we are already seeing that the courts cannot enforce their decisions if the executive refuses to obey. Anytime someone says “it’s illegal “, “the courts will decide” they are naive. Those days are passed.

Yeah, he's just trolling the libs, and it's working.

To be fair, trolling the libs is about as hard as using a Keurig.

Is that what you call it - suggest you google all the executive orders that Trump & sidekick are pushing. It might enlighten you - then again probably not

Why are you bringing up EOs in the context of trolling the libs? That's an entirely different conversation.

It's not working - there are morons everywhere

Yes! More 3 dimensional chess for President Trump while the media continues to play checkers….. he he he

Dutch, I really want to respect your opinion but it really feels like you just troll. I will ask again do you respect our Constitution?

Feeding troll's make their cells grow like protoplasm dividing and thriving. They troll to catch attention. Their heart rate explodes when they see a reply. It's like throwing bread in the Koi pond outside the Japanese restaurant. The mouth's open in unison.

Substack needs a warning label: please don't feed the trolls, it only encourages them.

I have a feeling Dutch is flattered that you find him a troll.

He’s a retired cop so…no.

I find the left’s response to President Trump absolutely hilarious! 😂 Certainly not trying to troll anyone, we just have a fundamental difference of opinion in politics. Truthfully, those consumed with anti Trump rhetoric should really find another hobby for their own mental health. Minimum of 4 years (ha ha ha) is a long time to sit and stew over everything President Trump says and does and it really doesn’t accomplish anything.

Setting aside political differences, there is a legitimate concern about the authoritarian approach of the new administration. So far, they are respecting rulings from the judiciary and just complaining about them. But if Trump goes full Andrew Jackson on us, the political climate could...uh...deteriorate rapidly.

Again we ask, Dutch, do you respect our Constitution?

Awaiting your reply.

I would kinda call that an opinion- based on stupidity- but still an opinion

Maybe we should prioritize discussing the very possibility that Mr Trump is a Russian mole.

Dude is nearly 80 and in cognitive decline. I expect he will be dead or drooling in his big boy diapers in a corner by the end of this term. It’s installation of his evil spawn that we should be worrying about. He actually just said JD Vance is not necessarily his successor. Greaseball Don Jr is waiting in the wings. Just roll back footage of the inauguration. Aside from Melania’s Hamburgerler costume, Ivanka was wearing a blue fascinator hat and blowing kisses like she is British royalty. That is his plan. A Trump Dynasty. It is his despicable spawn and their slimy spouses who are the problem.

You express my thoughts. There’s something called “time” and another element known as “aging.” They both take their toll; and from hearing about his lifestyle choices — diet and lack of exercise — if we’re lucky, the Grim Reaper will take care of any worry about a third term.

NO - do NOT talk about it for the next 4 years!!!! That just normalizes the idea, and when/if he tries it, it has already been part of the conversation and people won’t see it for the attack on the Constitution that it is!! That has been his MO for a lot of other things. Please do be a part of his plan on this. How’s about we talk about what he is doing NOW? Closing down the Protection Bureau might be a good place to start - it has saved normal Americans billions of dollars - but then Trump doesn’t care about ordinary Americans. And 49% of them still don’t comprehend that fact.

I believe DJT is capable of trying anything in order to remain in power and continue to stuff his coffers. Naive to believe otherwise…

The chief thing to worry about now is what happens if and when the Supreme Court rules against President Musk and PINO Trump and they just ignore it? Can we expect more out of this spineless Congress than Susan Collins expressing her concern?

I, for one, hope that Trump continues talking about a 3rd term for as long as possible. The more he talks about it, the more it delays any credible "successor" from stepping up in the Republican Party. After all, loyalty to Trump is the defining characteristic of the Party and in order to run in 2028, a candidate would have to defy him to do it. This would fracture the party more than anything, and weaken their chances of reelection. Alternatively, if by some fiat of SCOTUS or otherwise he does get a 3rd term, it would expose this country for the oligarchy that it is. At least we wouldn't have to pretend anymore, and we could use the Constitution as a placemat or a liner for a bird cage.

The idea that Trump is "just trolling the libs" reveals just how disgustingly unfit for office Trump is.

Sane presidents that respect the Constitution and rule of law do not repeatedly muse with an unconstitutional third terms just to "troll the libs"

Sane presidents that respect the Constitution and rule of law do not refuse to admit losing an election and then go on a months long illegal effort to overturn an election he did not like culminating in inciting a violent coup.

Sane presidential candidates that respect the Constitution and rule of law do not threaten to "use the military on ‘the enemy from within’ the U.S. if he’s reelected" as he did in Oct 2024.

Sane presidential candidates that respect the Constitution and rule of law do not toy with the idea of "suspending the Constitution" as Trump did in 2022.

Sane presidents that respect the Constitution and rule of law do not attempt to ILLEGALLY and UNCONSTITUTIONALLY REPEAL the 14th Amendment of the same Constitution unilaterally with an Executive Order.

Sane presidents that respect the Constitution and rule of law do not break so many laws in his first three weeks of his Reign of Tyranny that's it's difficult to keep track.

Sane presidents that respect the Constitution and rule of law do not toy with the idea of simply defying the courts as his own VP and other sycophants are doing TODAY!!

It's obvious that Trump II is taking the stance that he can do whatever he wants, and just TRY to stop him. Today's GOP certainly will not.

There are several ways Trump can try to stay in office. Read this chilling article for a run down of the possibles...

People need to get one thing: he isn't going anywhere. 1600 PA Ave is his last stop. The reason he didn't endorse JD Vance for a 2029 presidential run is not because he wants Jr to take his spot. It's because in his mind he does not see himself ever not being president. Who cares about the constitution and the 22nd amendment? Certainly not the orange one. He hired JD Vance as his VP for one job and one job only - to do what Pence didn't do on 1/6/2021. Come 1/6/2029 he will do whatever his dear leader tells him to do.

We will see where we are as a functioning constitutional republic in about three years. Trumpism has already moved norms beyond what was thought possible in nine years, five of which Trump was out of power. The process for amending the constitution is a mere trifle when a country has been infected by autocratic capitulation. The Russian Federation is a cautionary tale, as is the PRC, Hungary, and Turkey. Admittedly none of those examples has our historical tendency to right the listing ship after perilous periods, as the 250-year record shows.

Having said that, Trump’s restoration is the equivalent of Jefferson Davis becoming POTUS in 1868.

We are in the fight of our lives.

The sooner we realize it, better the odds we survive.

Obeying the laws of the US is for chumps! F**K the Constitution!

Haven't you figured this out yet Chris?

Once Trump starts ignoring the Courts and no one bats an eye, he just remains in office past 2029. Maybe we have elections in 2028, maybe not.

Same with my comment elsewhere about Barron as his successor when he finally passes. Barron doesn't have to be 35 or older if Trump has already neutered the Courts and Congress.

Expand full comment

And what if he just ignores the Constitution? Just like he's beginning to ignore judicial rulings?

That's what you're not factoring into your assessment, Chris. Laws and sacred documents mean nothing if they can simply be ignored.

Nope. Not simply musings. We have seen the lengths Trump is willing to go to get HIS way.
