In the 1950s, during the Army-McCarthy hearings on ferreting out Commies, a defense lawyer, in exasperation of McCarthy's u substantiated charges asked McCarthy, "At long last, sir, have you no shame?"
Thanks to shameless-can-win Trump, many of the current crop of ReTrumplican'ts can resounding answer,
"Yes, I have no shame in my inarticulation, bold-faced ignorance, sheer stupidity, and climbing cupidity."
What worries me is that we reward behavior like this. There are TONS of Members of Congress doing the hard work of actually representing their constituents who go largely unnoticed. And then there's this crap.
I enjoy having my picture taken with well-known jazz musicians...people of real accomplishment whose work I admire. Note that I said, "people of real accomlishment whose work I admire." That would, fortunately, rule out Santos.
Just because I know it would make me and my friends laugh. And Chris is right, the fact that meeting a congressman is something to laugh at speaks volumes.
I agree with your dismay with these youth wanting to vamp on celebrity, regardless of fame or infamy via the Wannabe Trump.
While my perspective is decades away from being that young, I don't wonder about the "why" attention given that night.
There seems to be built-in pressure now through social media of kids wanting to initially be "seen", then to be "liked," and if serious, to "monetize" themselves.
Over the decades there have been celebrities who were famous for being famous. No real talent in an expertise other than self-agrandizement.
The quest to be in a selfie with a famous or infamous celebrity isn't restricted to youth. Persons of all ages push and shove to get some sense of "being" in a such a picture.
Unfortunately, too many voters confuse celebrity with competence and vote for infamous candidates casting an image of celebrity.
There are now two types of Christianity in America, regardless of sects.
The traditional Christians, who strive to follow the tenets of Jesus.
and
The Nationalist Christians, who eschew Jesus, go for the honorific of Christ, and feel more comfortable with the Old Testament God with all the smiting and killing of enemies.
I have family and friends all over the world--they are absolutely flabbergasted at what has gone in this country for the past 7+ years, and that George Santos is not sitting in a jail cell somewhere is even more astonishing them to them.
Sadly, I have no response. This is who we are now.
I have the theory that our country's downfall began with the wild success of the first season of Survivor, the reality TV show. What is Santos other than a reality TV show anti-hero?
Even just a small fraction of what Santos has done would be grounds for immediate dismissal from virtually any job in America......except one. Ugh.
It's remarkable. Truly.

Gives you true pause when seeing this kind of sick attention seeking and actual attention given to such an immoral person.

I agree. What's happening in this country is very disturbing.
I am curious how many votes he gets in a primary assuming he runs, which at that point, he's absolutely going to.

To be completely honest, if I met George Santos, I'd have to get a photo. People would freak.
I know! So would lots of people. That is why it's SO depressing to me.
This is giving me flashbacks to the time I got a photo with Ted Cruz and I showed it to my co-workers. One screamed.
Why? How could you not find it humiliating? I just don't understand.

Maybe we could figure out how to ignore Trump, too.
If only!
The same people who complain about the country not having Christian values anymore are the ones who line up to defend Trump and “Santos.”

I see what you did there—but is your wellspring G.B. Shaw, Mark Twain or, my preference, “It’s A Wonderful Life”?
By my count, this is your second Three Amigos reference over the last few months.
One does what one can.
Ugh indeed!
Ugh is the word.
Fact: People take pictures of train wrecks all the time.
I have the theory that our country's downfall began with the wild success of the first season of Survivor, the reality TV show. What is Santos other than a reality TV show anti-hero?
To be fair.
Those kids are MAGA. The one is wearing a Trump hat and their shirts say High School leaders retreat
I'm guessing it's a TPU type event and that's exactly the type of kid who would idolize Santos
