I liked your post but obviously not your situation. Definitely good to take it one day at a time. I like the saying about today being a gift and that’s why it’s called the present. Peace and Love.
I helped a deaf person understand how to fill out a form yesterday. As he left, I thought, "There, but for the grace of God, go I." And then I remembered, too, that "a tomorrow is promised no man." Thanks for the reminder that every day is a gift and our health is a rare blessing.
Time are hard. My dad has parkinson and its now becoming dementia.. was my dad was a journalist and involved in politics... he was the best speech writer and giver. He wrote a book of poem. And now he has a hard time making full sentences and has a hard time finding his words. Its so hard seing your loved ones like that especially when it affects the mind..
I try my best to be gratefull of all the time I spent with him when he was himself. And im grateful that I still have a dad even tho he s not the same person. But man, sometimes its hard. This reminder is good. Thank you!
I hear you, man. I was in an ER Mar 21st, operated on the next day and came home the following Sunday (Palm Sunday) with 2 drains and a pending (in 5-6 weeks) additional surgery to remove the gall bladder. It was actually in too bad of shape for them to chance removing it - sheesh. In any case, I am thankful for every day -especially when filled with the mundane but sweet boring minutes. Thanks for sharing the reminder - we all need to hear it (even when the reminder can come down hard...) Cheers!
Glad your mom is ok. I've been in the ER twice in the last month - once because my back gave out and once because my wife got sick. We both take care of ourselves, but things happen. We joke we are falling apart now that we are in our late 50s. Never take being healthy or being able to get health care for granted. It truly is a blessing. However, it also shows just how broken our health care system is, but that is another post...
Allow me to suggest (having a "bad back" myself, thanks to Mommie Dearest) that having a good chiropractor and regular visits (at least 1-2 a month) can lead to perhaps strengthening your back, or at least making sure you mitigate things so it doesn't get worse.
I was running ( late) out the door when I saw this email… sat right down to let you know how much it moved me! I am that mom, and my son is you!!! I am SO very glad you were able to be there for her! It means EVERYTHING to me, that in a heartbeat, he has been, and continues to be there for me, at those times I SO WISH , he didn’t have to be , haha! My daughter lives out of state, but always up for a phone call if I’m dealing with something and need some troubleshooting symptoms, etc.. ( She is a nurse). And it appears to me you are doing exactly what you need to , should be, doing…. Living your life , following your passion in your work, raising and loving your kids, and committed in your marriage and relationships!! Yes a trip to the ER is a sobering and a crash course reminder of how very fortunate ( I) we are… if we are able to be seen and taken care of, and sent on our way…And it is human nature it seems, to get sucked back into allll the rest of it… I feel it will just add more enthusiasm to all that you do, and has given you a renewed appreciation of alll those simple and wonderful things… that make up our “ routine” days. Carry on! (What did you decide to do about lunches)? Haha!
Thank you! Something we should all remember, every day, that there are those who are struggling. I have been in ERs, either for me or a loved one so I am grateful every day for my health and hope to have it for as long as possible. I am glad your mom is ok!
Early 80’s here. My mind seems to be still working but my body has other ideas. Thank you for sharing your day and giving me the boost that I needed ! Glad your Mom is ok - she is blessed to have you.
Reminders like this are good. But it's not possible to live in a state of full gratitude all the time. I've been through the wringer with cancer treatment. It destroyed my (usually very healthy) body when I was way too young. You'd think I would NEVER forget or take for granted. But I do. Still. But the reminders wake me up pretty darned fast! I'm sure there are lots of folks with this same situation on this forum. Glad you reminded us. And yourself. I take all the reminders I can get. Glad your mom is ok!
Twice in my life, 45 years apart and for different issues, I have required emergency surgery that saved my life both times. I was rehabbed to good health and a full life each time. Skilled, dedicated professionals -- doctors, nurses, rehab specialists -- gave me back my life. Recently, I had to take my wife to the ER because of what appeared, at the time, to be a serious problem. I will never, ever take outstanding medical care for granted. And every day I remain grateful that God put these wonderful, caring medical professionals into my life...to save and restore it!
Chris, you are so right. I have stage 4 cancer and EVERY day is a gift.
I liked your post but obviously not your situation. Definitely good to take it one day at a time. I like the saying about today being a gift and that’s why it’s called the present. Peace and Love.
My best thoughts are with you, Steven. You are brave!
Sending my best in your direction, Steven.
Best thoughts for your recovery.
Good stuff.
I was in the ER a few months ago and the docs told my family I would have died in 2 hours without medical attention. I don't recall any of it.
Life is short, you take every damn day as a gift.
Glad Mom is fine and you got a new perspective.
Carry on. We need you.
Hope all is well for you now! Scary stuff!
So glad you’re OK now!
there clearly are folks who would quibble with the statement that I am OK, but I'll take that!

So true! We need to be ever thankful for our blessings, and keep them in the forefront of our minds.🥰
Thank you for the reminder.

I have walked that path on a parallel line, my mother. Shalom friend.

Thanks TC - starting physical therapy soon and hoping it was a one-time thing and not a chronic condition. Hopefully yours is manageable.
Wonderful. So well put. Thank you. We need more positive out there!

Thank you for your beautiful post!
As always, thanks for saying the hard stuff out loud.

Glad your mom is okay, Chris!
Glad everything ended well.
Well said Chris! Glad your mom is doing okay. In my late 70s so I know my days are numbered but I try to be grateful for all the days I have left.
Early 80’s here. My mind seems to be still working but my body has other ideas. Thank you for sharing your day and giving me the boost that I needed ! Glad your Mom is ok - she is blessed to have you.
May you have many more days!

Thank you for this, Chris. It is so very true and yet, look what it takes to be reminded of this.
