The worst aspect of Bobby Menendez is that he thinks the American public is as stupid as he is corrupt.

The claim that he learned from his Cuban parents to always have cash on hand because of their experience with the overthrow of the Cuban government is absurd.

Their experience was watching the aftermath of the 1959 overthrow on TV from their home in New Jersey, since they left Cuba in 1954.

Furthermore, how did a Senator earning $175k a year accumulate over $500k without having money in the investment marketplace?

And most bills stuffed into clothing are less than five years old?

Total Trumpian Rat!

Hope the piling-on continues from Dem colleagues in the Senate and House.

His defenses make NO sense.

They're infuriating - playing the race card that people are after him because they don't want to see a successful Latino, the phony "refugee from communism" business - and show a basic contempt for the rest of everyone else.

Bobby is wrong about people not wanting to see a successful Latino...everyone seems to like Carlos Santana.

You are correct about Menendez. However, unlike the Republicans who defend their indicted leader, the Democrats are not defending Menendez or saying it is because of a corrupt justice system. This difference is significant. It is interesting that Menendez is more likely to get GOP support than Democrats. The Republicans are going all in with crooks and liars.

So Menendez is clarifying the difference between the parties. One defends crooks. One defends the justice system.

I think your point should be the main focus of this discussion really. The Democrats are pounding on Senator Menendez to resign not because they fear he is tarnishING their image but because they respect dignity unlike the other side who is encouraging and voting for an already CONVICTED FRAUDSTER in Donald Trump to compete for the highest office in the land. That's the definition of hypocrisy.

The American electorate (majority that is ) is smarter than they are given credit. They know the difference between Biden and Menendez. They also know the similarities ( plenty of them) between Trump and Rep Santos

Melendez is as guilty as sin and should resign. I am wondering if the pressure will eventually have him resigning, however, that could be months and months. There is a difference between a senator and presidential candidate but the point is to muddy the waters, as you said. It’s all a total shit show from the GOP and it will keep on going. Ugh.

Can't they remove him from all committees so that his senatorial powers are reduced to that of an ordinary citizen? Could they even revoke his voting powers too? Although I presume they'd need his vote on 50/50 decisions. There has to be a way to punish him. Don't they have rules in place for this sort of thing? People commit crimes all the time. If you are indicted out in society, good luck keeping your professional job. Didn't the forefathers think of this?

I don't think they can take away his voting power. They can strip him of his committees for sure.

As I figured, they need his vote on 50/50 calls.

He is up for elections which means that even if he does not resign, he will probably have to run in a NJ primaries, and can lose. This will be a big difference from the Republican primaries, where Democrats show that they will not go along with indicted corrupt politicians. Isnt this the elegant and beneficial way out?

That's right, Uri. He is up for reelection in 2024. But that's a lot of months away!

Hey Chris - why has there been so little coverage about the ongoing genocide of Armenian Christians in Artsakh? Biden shook hands with the Azeri foreign minister while that country was killing civilians. Strangely Menendez was one of the few politicians in either party to make a statement: https://yuribezmenov.substack.com/p/artsakh-christian-armenian-genocide-azerbaijan

Meh, Dems can dump him and it doesn't affect their control of the Senate. Plus he makes it very easy for Dems to justify dumping him. The Dems easily dumped Franken for what seems like nothing by comparison. They are dragging their feet a little on this, but it will happen. I think the Dems should expel him from the Senate if he refuses to leave, and I don't think they would suffer politically by doing that.

Schumer needs to get on the Menendez resignation train!

You're not wrong.

Menendez should step down for the good of his State, his party and the country in general. But, he won't.

What I find interesting is that Republican senators (Rubio, Cotton) seem to be the one defending him, because if they push for him to resign, then what about Trump?

So in a way, isn't he putting Republicans in a pickle? Since Democrats can just throw Menendez under the bus and keep harping on Trump.

Menendez was "sketchy" and "hinky" before he ever went to the Senate.
