Read Trump’s comment and notice (as always) that it is a total projection of what’s true about him. Christie may not have a chance against him, but how refreshing to see someone saying what others are afraid to say.

I agree that Christie is saying what lots and lots of other candidates (and Republicans) think. I just don't know how big an audience within the GOP there is for what he is selling.

At least Christie is trying.

I wouldn’t sell Christie’s messaging so short Chris. I bet there’s some Trump voters who’ll listen. I might even send him money to keep him going. Just for the fun of it.

Maybe! I mean there is still a chunk of GOP voters who are open to an anti-Trump -- or at least a post-Trump -- message...I don't know if Christie is the right messenger but....

I’m not suggesting he’s a serious candidate. I’m saying the show is going to be fun. Christie will be a great distraction because trump will feel compelled to hit back. And often.

What has got to have Trump worried is sharing a debate stage with Christie. He's going to do everything he can to avoid having that happen.

Agree. Christie is anb able debater -- and, as I said in the piece, he's been there before. So he won't be overwhelmed either by the moment or Trump.

There has to be some reason Christie is willing to take this chance. What does he gain by this? We already know he is a strong debater. Someone has to be encouraging Christie. Who? As a side note: i believe if Christie had been his own man and not relied on the advisors he had in Iowa, he would have won Iowa.

Trump or his talking heads have made it pretty clear he doesn’t intend to debate any of them. They feel he’s got the superior numbers and he’s already got the nomination locked up.

Christie may not be the right messenger, may not get much traction and think that Christie knows that. Of course, he’d never admit that and will pitch it that he has a path forward. However, what I am hoping for is him attacking Trump and have Trump by the short hairs. In the long run, it may not take Trump down but Trump will become so unhinged and who knows what may happen. I read that Mary Trump said to bring a bowl of mashed potatoes to the debate (if Trump is there) as there was something in his childhood with mashed potatoes and indicating he was a loser. If it is anything that gets him riled up is being told he’s a loser.

He is not just a lover multiple times, he is a sore lover lol

Sorry for the typo. I meant to say loser and sore loser NOT lover

After enough times, you could be a sore lover.

Can you explain how a Party can end up polling the two most destructive men as high as they do? We have watched both in high public offices abuse the systems they have control of to further their power. No surprises here folks! We have no excuses to hide behind. They are both poison.

I’m no fan of any of the Republican candidates, but it’ll be great to see one truly “bully back” at Trump. Unfathomable to me that none have ever truly done this.

“Many say don’t “punch down” when talking about people like Chris Sununu, “Sloppy” Chris Christie, “Aida” Hutchinson, or others,”

1) What? No nickname for Sununu?

2) I thought Steve Bannon was “sloppy?” Is the insult well running dry?

3) “Aida?” Does that mean anything or is Trump misspelling something? That’s as bad as DeSanctus.

Also, I want to offer up to Chris Chris the observation that Trump went to Jack Smith “begging like a dog” to be given a pass on criminal charges.

For a guy who is supposed to be good at nicknames, Trump is losing his touch.

Christie the Whale is right there

I am no Christie fan, but is it really necessary to attack his weight?

Expand full comment

I don’t think personal appearance should matter in a perfect world but we’re dealing with the narcissistic former guy. It’s ironic that the fat and out of shape trump is trying to pick on Christie because of his weight.

And so predictable.

It's not, I'm just thinking from Trump's POV here.

Thanks for the response.

Oh, for any decent human being asking for the votes of other decent human beings, it would be completely beneath them.

However, we’re slyly projecting what the Orange Chaos Muppet would do.

Trump is no light weight either. He’d just be asking for it right back

Chris Christie who knows Trump very well is going to remind the country how dangerous and divisive another Trump Presidential campaign will be for the country. He will also warn the primary Republican voters that Donald Trump cannot win a General Election again as evidenced by his recurrent losses in 2018 a d 2020. Excellent thing Chris is joining the Republicans who want to be the next President!

Trump will never share a debate stage with Christie, for exactly the reasons you have outlined. He's better at doing his bullying in the media and on his social media account, because there is no way for anyone to respond when he does that. If he ever did get on a stage with Christie, it would not go well (probably for either of them).

The name calling and imagery is fun. How's this?: The only thing Trump has to fear is Christie sitting on him or stepping on his toe.

Don't know how to submit questions for Friday. So I'll try this way. From what I've read, heard, etc. Jaime Dimon would be a good candidate for president. What are your thoughts on his candidacy and appeal. Am I missing something?

Thanks for this, Chris. It's good to find you here. I look forward to dropping in often.
