I'm really enjoying these Chris Crucial evening roundups (and I'm telling everyone I know to subscribe!) I think you're expanding your reader base without losing any of the insight, humor, and candor of your under-1000 subscribers days. Keep up the great work Chris!

The reply I'd really like to hear:

"Both of us are essentially the same age. But here's the big difference; everyone in my administration has one goal - how to make things better for every American. It doesn't matter who you are, the color of your skin, your religious beliefs, or your political affiliation. The other guy, who confused the woman he was convicted of sexually molesting with his then wife, him, he only wants to empower hatred and division, and to not only exclude, but to actually banish those that don't agree with his warped ideology. The other difference?, the people in my administration are free to share their thoughts and opinions; offer alternatives, so that the end result is what makes things better for every American. The other guy?, he's surrounded himself with ass-kissing yes-men who'll gladly sell the country out. So I ask you. What would you prefer, democracy or tyranny? Ask 1940's Germany how that turned out for them?"

Agreed completely with your analysis of how President Biden should address the age issue.

Biden was good in that appearance. He can do fine in settings like that. His staff needs to book similar dates& prepared speeches & keep him away from settings where questions are screamed in informal settings. As to Haley, I don't like her politics, but there is honor for true conservatives who call out Trump's lies. Liz Cheney seems fine with her place in the world. Cassidy Hutchinson, whom my law firm proudly represented, just won a Profile in Courage Award. Haley will lose this race but find plenty of opportunities . (Yes, I will eat my words if she joins other enablers and winds up endorsing Trump.)

Keep this up, Chris. Enjoying Chris Crucial, a good evening read. While I believe Biden needs to continue this messaging for his age and get out and show everyone he can still govern, I am a bit worried about his chances. This will be a long slog until Election Day.

Thank you! I am undecided on "Chris Crucial" candidly...It takes a bunch of work and doesn't yield many subscriptions (free or paid).

Do you think I should keep doing it?

I love reading Crucial every evening, but maybe you should cut back to every Friday, then expand from there. Only if it's a time sink with a poor rate of return. I'll miss it, though.

I say yes but maybe make it 3 not 5? Easier on you?

Definitely!

I’d say yes keep it going … but, it is obviously a lot of effort and appreciated by me. Maybe I can propose a Chris Crucial as a week recap on Friday evening (and as events warrant?).

I LIKE doing it. But I also need to think (a little) like a businessman. Need to spend time doing posts that get people to sign up. I feel like this *could* be one but hasn't been so far....Suggestions welcome.

I know I've said this before, but maybe try plugging the heck out of it on your youtube videos? Like "and if you wanna hear more insight don't forget to subscribe to Chris Crucial nightly at 7:30 etc."

One thing I used to love about The Point newsletter was the nightly trivia. You could do trivia or give people a chance to do predictions Might be a fun way to make it interactive and encourage participation, and the winner could get a signed book?

I subscribe to Amber Tamblyn's substack and she's always doing monthly giveaways to encourage subscriptions. One of them incentivized me to subscribe. Might be something to think about.

Long but Trump only getting 60% in South Carolina which is a very red state is a decent sign. That doesn’t bode well for doing well in some of the key swing states but anything can happen.

Just wait till the state of the union to see what the ole guy can do to a bunch of putzes that want to destroy the country by fawning to a guy who wears makeup, dyes his hair, is a business cheat and fraud, a rapist, kisses up to murderous dictator and also happens to have stolen national secrets, can’t accept that as an incumbent president he lost to a sleepy guy who campaigned from his basement. The fraud is going to be toast. He might fold before Election Day so he can save the money for legal fees.

Loved you on the podcast. I sent it to our journalism professor/chair and we have been discussing it and her students. It is a must listen.

I read the transcript of your conversation with Celeste and really enjoyed it. I appreciated what you said about the media's coverage of Trump- that a lot of people's critiques boils down to the fact that its coverage isn't changing anybody's minds.

Yeah. I think a lot of people blame the media because they can't believe their fellow Americans voted for Trump. But, they did.

I know it's a misquote, but makes me think of:

"I can't believe Nixon won. I don't know anyone who voted for him."

On Biden, he will benefit from a vast majority of people understanding the age issue (and it is an issue). Most of us might know a quite old person who we would trust with our nuclear codes. For me, that was my wife’s 99-year-old grandmother, who could talk politics and still maintained a walking regimen almost to her death but still paused to remember names. We also might have a 65-year-old uncle with early-onset Alzheimer's or dementia, who fails to remember names or carry out important tasks.

It seems most of us just know, right? Biden needs to simply be himself and carry on conversations. Publically. It shouldn't be scripted, either. Just normal.

Just unsubscribe already or stop posting these absolutely *stupid* comments! You’re wasting ALL of our time with your petty little criticisms. If you can’t understand the importance of what Chris said about how good the “age message” is that Biden gave on Seth Meyer’s show, then you’re not paying attention.

With all due respect, Dr., though I think you’re delusional when it comes to the confidence you have that Biden will win without concern, I don’t want to use ad hominem attacks with you. However, the level of stupid comments from you has increased to the point of distraction. Just stop. Please.

I thought David Frum offered a good perspective in an Atlantic article that addressed age and memory in presidents. (https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/02/confessions-presidential-cheat-sheet-writer/677573/). The presidency is hard work. But as you point out, policies and practices are key.

How do you think Haley will defend those comments when she endorses Trump?

Something something we just can't afford another four years of Joe Biden

Do I date myself if I remember Ronald Reagan, when challenged in a debate about his age, laughing and saying, "I promise I won't take advantage of my opponent's youth and inexperience." Or was that someone else?

As someone who has lived and worked in Okeefenokee West for 40 years, bad news for the Hollywood Studios and the rest of the media companies is good news for us.

Like the guy at Disney who has been responsible for all the Big IP remakes all the time to the exclusion of everything else - which people have been saying they're tied of the past two years with all the "tentpoles" crashing - has now been replaced by the guy who ran Searchlight Films and has spent his life taking (gasp! shock!) Original Stories and turning them into successful movies. It appears that - once again! - "Everything Old Is New Again" and they have rediscovered the idea that made Hollywood Hollywood.

One can hope.

Maybe the Chris Crucial spots can be on an as needed basis. Of course, the way things are going you would need to post every day. Twice.

Re Bidens campaigning. The S. Meyers questions that I saw were softballs, which helped the cause.

Count me among the skeptics as to whether JB has the stamina and mental energy to put himself out there on a daily basis. I hope to be wrong.
