All Presidents age while in office, except Trump. He aged us. That's because he's a lazy, so this light schedule of campaigning doesn't surprise me. He's so narcissistic he thinks he doesn't have to work for more votes.

I'm from PA and was disappointed Shapiro didn't get the VP nod. He gave a great speech tonight, and his time will come. Harris & Walz were both great, a breath of fresh air and enthusiasm & I feel hopeful they can win in November. I was worried Tim Walz was going to be another Tim Kaine, a perfectly fine candidate but not very charismatic. The couch joke proved me wrong. I laughed out loud. Look forward to seeing more of him, good pickπŸ‘Œ

I agree...Walz had a few Oh Snap zingers that made me realize he's not afraid of Trump & Vance!

We need them to go after Trump big time. I love Joe Biden but seeing these 3 tonight with their energy vs what he was putting down, he so completely did the right thing whether he wanted to or not. At least now we have a fighting chance.

Well, we got to see a comparison tonight of who were the two finalists. I like Josh Shapiro, but his shouting kind of exhausted me. I thought Walz knocked it out of the park.

agreed on both fronts. I'm from PA and love Shapiro. Glad he's staying.

As a POTUS, Trump didn't work b/c he lacks the basic skills required for the job. He is famous for being ignorant- recall Gates' comments about Trump's thinking HPV and AIDS were the same or his lunacy about drinking bleach or shining a light to kill Covid. His former aides report he doesn't read and needs childlike charts to understand things. Kamala and Walz slayed today. We have a real chance to keep that know-nothing Trump from stepping inside the White House again.

Elon and Trump will so not be must see TV for me. Elon is also a desiccated man. All they both have going for them is money, and still no one likes them. Elon’s daughter changed her last name to distance herself from him and Melania can’t stand to be in the same room as Trump. I don’t care what either one of them has to say. It will be more hate and bigotry and transphobia and dystopia and lies and BS.

I’m so sick of these people.

Trump’s laziness or inability to really campaign hard I think will actually hurt. He could coast in a Republican primary while barely campaigning because the GOP is now a cult of personality, but I have a feeling voters will notice him barely doing anything come September. It makes Kamala look energetic and young and fresh.

Trump likely chooses his rally sites based on one thing. Optics. Where will it most look like he is an American hero who is beloved by his huge crowd of enthralled and adoring MAGA fans. Sad.

Low Energy Trump. Sad! But why is he doing a rally in Montana?

These candidates only go where it is close or they are behind! I loved Walz state that violent crime was up under Trump and that is NOT including the CRIMES committed by Traitor Trump!!!

There were about a dozen lines that I loved! β€œThe joy is back!” We can sleep when we’re dead. Debate Vance if he’ll get off the couch.

Oh, and I love that I bet trump is seething about that packed house. Ha ha! And oh, by the way, where is trump???

And where is Melania? Other than the convention she seems to have vanished.

Yeah, one of the reddest states. Guess he just likes a friendly audience.

I do not believe this will be a coin flip election. By the time November rolls around, the enthusiasm, the message and the turnout machine as well as the Biden ground operation will open a gap. 51-44. 5 to RFK (mostly from Trump) and Jill Stein.

I hesitate to get *too* caught up in the excitement of this ticket, and it’s a really good one, but my heart and head tell me I think you’re right, Mark.

I know it’s the β€œhoneymoon” period and honeymoon’s eventually end, but with such a shortened campaign season, that excitement and enthusiasm may just keep people motivated to GOTV and cruise through to a resounding, if likely not landslide, victory. I think it’s within the realm of possibilities now.

I really do believe she can clean his clock. They seem worried and discombobulated.

You can bet the Musk β€œinterview” will not be challenging Trump on anything. I’m not sure I would call it must see TV. I plan to skip it but will waited with bated breath for Chris’ must read analysis of the 46 crazy things Trump said.

Trump is not campaignING because of his ADVANCED age

Expand full comment

That’s probably true, but also because he has NEVER campaigned. He’s never seriously worked a day in his life.

Hear me out on this one.

If you thought you had the election ACTUALLY rigged, would you bother to campaign much?

I know this sounds crazy, and yes, I heard it from Rachel, but if trumpf was so certain that he had enough folks in place that there was no way the election could be certified, well, why would he even bother to exert himself?

Add to this mix his speech that you only have to vote one more time and then never again, it sure sounds like Don Old actually believes that he has it all wrapped up.

Expand full comment

Yes, I’m concerned as well, given how Rachel Maddow explained it.

Every indication is that he’s confident that he’s got the legal teams in place NOW to challenge certification of votes at the state level, something he was scrambling to do in 2020.

I couldn’t be happier about the Democratic ticket right now, and the excitement yesterday in Philadelphia, and Walz’s kickass speech (β€œMake no mistake: violent crime was *up* under Donald Trump……And that’s not even counting the crimes *he* committed.”), was fantastic!

That said, this concern about certification, and the damage it could do long term to the American system of politics, is the one thing that has me sleeping uneasily, still.

Chris, your "Sir" alerts are spot on. I suggest you add "Superlative" alerts to your quiver. Whenever Trump uses a superlative like "greatest, " "biggest," "best," "worst," etc., it's a sure indication that he's lying.

Just wondering if the Biden campaign schedule takes into account that he also has a more-than-full-time job of running the country. He did travel abroad for some time to attend NATO and G7 meetings.

why should he campaing when the media normalizes his behavior? As long as he goes unchallenged over his racist and fascist statements, he'll sit back, bilk his contributors and if he loses, he walks away with tens of millions of dollars. grifting pays.

Cilizza Fake News on Trump "slooooow" Schedule... using the NYT source provided:

-Interviews: Trump 45 | Biden 18

-Speeches: Trump 10 | Biden 21

-Rallies: Trump 11 | Biden 4

-Fund Raising: Trump 12 | Biden 16

-Total Events: Trump 78 | Biden 59 (Note: 30 of 59 Biden's events were in Wash, DC!!!)

When one actually uses facts, it is clear Trump CLEARLY outpaced Biden by events and a wider dispersion of events in places that matter, which refutes Cilizza's point using his own source.

Expand full comment

How are we counting these β€œinterviews”? Are the hour long hostage situations where he calls into Fox and Friends and doesn’t let them speak count as an β€œinterview”? Also remember that Biden actually has a job that he works at (unlike Executive Time Trump).

Ask the NYT. I am just saying Cilizza cited a NYT article to allude that Biden outpaced Trump, but the article says the opposite. Horrible journalism
