The American media loves and constantly promotes Trump. This includes CNN and MSNBC. They endlessly talk about him and play his deranged comments. The media bosses are greedy men willing to destroy the US for money.
The Trump "press conference" has made it clear that the media has abdicated its job seeking truth, in favor of seeking ratings. They do not deserve the title of journalist and should not be respected as such. They are owed nothing because they have earned nothing.

I have a different view of the issue of media coverage. You say "they (the media) endlessly talk about him and play his DERANGED comments." )emphasis added. I agree his comments are often deranged and seldom logical. Thus, I don't think the media coverage is to his advantage. Trump's act has passed the "sell by" date. Outside of his cult & those who vote R no matter what (commonly on the sole issue of taxes), people are tired of his nasty comments&hollow promises. Harris is bringing a fresh & positive message, and for the moment it is gathering momentum.
I have no idea how anyone is fooled by what this fool of a candidate has to say. He literally never talks about HOW he is going to do something, much less what his policies actually are. I don't think he has any policy other than deliberately mispronouncing VP Harris' name, calling her names, telling outright lies, and threatening people. That's all he's got. He has convinced his lemmings that it is not about policy and just having a different viewpoint than the opposing party, but instead the Democrats are your enemy and you have to hate them and you have to work up into a frenzy. You would think he is talking about some adversarial country we are at war with. He has never actually said what his slogan of "Make America Great Again" is all about or what it means, but we can all figure it out. They are all too foolish to get, "Hey, he ran on this MAGA shit last time and he lost. Why would he win now?" Even McDonald's knew when it was time to change its slogan. How many have they been through over the years?
Most Trump supporters, not all, but most, are low information voters. They hear a soundbyte and get all worked up because it sounds good and aligns with what they want to believe, so they assume everything is true. It is also bringing out the worst in people. They want to believe every racist, misogynistic, ageist, and transphobic thing that comes out of Trump's mouth because it gives them license to hate the things they fear. (for whatever deranged reason they fear anything different.) Why any Trump lover who lives in poverty or struggles in any sort of way would look at Trump, who likes to sit on his golden toilet on his private jet, and think "This man gets me and is fighting for me" is beyond me. He sells hate and fear, so it really does not matter what his policies and promises are.
All valid. The greatest trick Trump and the Rs ever played was winning rural America and working class whites with social issues while governing to serve the ultra-wealthy and corps
100% agree on the “sell by” comment. If Trump were serious about campaigning, which everyone except his loyal followers knows he’s not, he would offer SOMETHING to sway the independent voters in the battleground states. Alas, he has nothing to offer.
So true. Any pol with sense would stake out the middle. Had Trump acted mildly normal while Joe was still in the race, he might have built an insurmountable lead. He's like an old Catskills insult comic. He has one routine.
In fact MSNBC did NOT air the rant (saying they'd report anything newsworthy) and CNN broke away from it when it was clear what was going on. FOX, on the other hand, aired the whole thing.
Chris, regarding his press conferences... I remember in 2015 or 2016 or so a really excellent interview with a reporter who covered Trump in the 1980s as a local beat in New York. He explained that Trump would often announce press conferences for building openings and the signing of deals and that he liked them so much, it was sometimes pretty obvious that there was no real news. He'd just announce a press conference and spend the entire time talking about how he had the best marble and what not. He said that New York reporters didn't mind because there would be enough for a few inches of copy and his bigger stories made up for it but even in 2015, it was pretty obvious that he was doing the same thing. Today's press conference was exactly that: no news.... just summoned people so he could ramble about whatever.
None of Trump’s public appearances should be covered live. Do it like they did in the old days of sports - tape delayed - except only when there is something he says that is relevant. Fat chance of that happening. If people want to find out what he said do it the old fashioned way. Read about it ! ! !
Or read Chris. He’ll do a great job of telling us - along with humor. We need that more than ever these days
None of Trump's events should have been covered live in 2016, either. But Trump was getting ratings on cable news and he was a novelty. Look where that led us!
Trump is going to continue rolling out these "press conferences", which will continue to be diminished of any value. But then, he'll scream 'prejudice' or 'interference' or whatever when no one shows up, or they're not taken "seriously".
Just setting up one more thing he can complain about when he's on the short end in November....
That confirms this is not the press conference he promised "soon" to announce his vote on the Florida abortion ballot proposition. Can't check that off my list yet. It remains along with the medical plan he will propose to replace Obamacare -- that was promised in "two weeks" many times, many years ago. [Sigh]
There's something wrong with a wealthy, entitled man, who has probably never personally purchased groceries in his life, standing at the luxury resort he owns, and complaining about grocery prices as if he actually personally cares...
Yeah, that’s my reaction to his outrageous lies about the cost of bacon: can anyone believe that he’s EVER been grocery shopping his entire life?! Fred Sr. had kitchen staff when DonOLD was growing up, and I can’t imagine there’s EVER been a time when he didn’t have kitchen staff himself.
"When Trump did take questions, the first few were, well, AWFUL. “Why did God save you?” “How can you make America affordable again?” Like, seriously????"
And then people wonder why Kamala doesn't want to do interviews with the press.
I was glad to see that MSNBC chose not to broadcast Trump’s News conference in real time. If there had been any real news, they would have reported it. I’ll take “fake news” over fake Trump lies any day!
I could see the argument both ways. I know some people — Tom Nichols is one of— who think they should show all of the press conference and all of speeches. Let people see what they are actually voting for.
But the problem with airing him live and letting people “hear what he’s really saying”, Chris, is that it goes unfact-checked and uncontested live. He’s like a firehouse of lies and how do you present him without *substantially* harming the cause of Truth and actual fairness? How many hours do *you* spend going through his speech transcripts and documenting each unhinged thing he says? How can that be done in real-time?
The answer is that it can’t be done in real-time or, at the least, no one has figured out how to do it yet, and the media has had 9 years so far to figure it out.
I’m all for the idea of starting the coverage live, but if there’s nothing new being said, or nothing *truly* “newsworthy”, pull away and give a recap later, if there’s a need.
See this is what I agree with. Show Trump spewing all the idiocy you can. Let him make a fool of himself in the townsquare and let everyone see it. My only gripe is that you need to give VP Harris the same courtesy. She actually speaks with substance and talks about policy but not everything is shown. I get why they choose Trump sometimes, he gets ratings because folks are tuning in to laugh at the shitshow.
As long as the media play lapdog to Trump, Harris should give no interviews.
Rick Wilson has said it best,
“We’re also witnessing an emergent property of the Harris campaign.
“They’re doing the work of a big, fast, successful campaign instead of playing two dumb games. First, they refuse to be drawn into a tit-for-tat on Trump’s weirdo insults and lies. He’s desperate for them to fire back with something huffy like “How Dare The Former President Refer to Vice President Harris As ‘Kambala’” followed by a 700-word press release or to accept his predicates and play defense.
“They also refuse to play the media game of “We Demand A 3-Hour Interview.”
“They learned it from watching Trump and the media’s treatment of Biden. Trump is given every possible pass in the world from the news media — including this week’s breathless indulgence of three identical non-news conferences. (I could have written more accurate headlines in my sleep: “Lying Liar Who Lies Lies Again In Rambling Torrent of Lies” largely covers it.)
“Just as Trump broke the narrative cycle of campaigns in 2016, Harris is delivering messages outside the mediated bubble. Trump is a worthless and cretinous traitor, but the media went along with his rules from the start, shoveling billions of dollars in earned media his way. They’re doing it again.
“Now, Kamala Harris is playing by the same rule, and the press is none too happy.”
Let the press be unhappy. The press can just go fork themselves.
I only caught a few minutes toward the end when he was "taking questions" then just ignoring what was asked and rambling on about what ever he wanted. Fun group activity for your followers:
Listen to one of his answers. Then everyone tries to guess what question he was asked. 1 point if you get any of the words from the actual question. Nobody will guess the actual question so just award 2 points for whoever is closest.
Omg, I came here to say exactly this!!! There is zero chance that Trump that he gives a flying f#*@ about birds or any wildlife, and you can bet that if he was told he had to make his skyscrapers 'bird friendly,' he'd fight it tooth and nail.
What's so glaring is that he had this display of groceries out in front of him so he can cite the prices he paid for everything and how expensive everything is. The supermarket in Bedminster, NJ (which is where he was) is King's Supermarket. King's is a luxury supermarket with prices easily double if not triple of Whole Foods. People pay the prices for the snob factor and if you are shopping there, you are not the least bit concerned as how much something costs.

So I ordered that shirt and it arrived few days ago! I’m going to wear it out by November 5 🤣
Whoever made this, thank you! 👍
The more joy Harris/Walz spreads the more doom and gloom Trump will spew!
We’re NOT going back.

Exactly right. And he makes the same promises without anyone noticing he never kept any of them

Yup!
The graph looks like Trump's autograph

Trump is a “one trick pony.”
He’ll never change.
To carry the equine analogies one step further, he's a horse's ass. :-)

Trump riffs on windmills killing birds. I wonder how many birds die crashing into Trump buildings?

“Covering this as a news event then is a bit of a misnomer. This was a campaign rally, pure and simple.”
Maybe calling it a press conference is now the only way he can draw a crowd to his campaign rallies.
