The election is HERE.
Polls have already closed in a few spots (Indiana, Kentucky) and will close in states across the country over the next few hours. Here’s the full list of when polls close.
Don’t expect too much, too soon. Counting votes takes time. And that is a GOOD thing.
A few notes on my plan for tonight.
Starting around 8 pm eastern, I am going to send a link to a Substack chat to ALL subscribers — paid and free. This will serve as the sort-of “So What” town square for the night. I will be popping in from time to time with thoughts but I want this to be YOUR space to talk, share information and speculate. ONE RULE: Treat others the way you want to be treated. No name-calling. No bullying. No threats. Be kind. We are all in this together.
At 10 pm eastern tonight, I am launching a livestream on my YouTube channel. You can come hang out with me as I sort through breaking news, results and all the rest. I plan to go until around midnight. I did a livestream already today that you can check out here.
I am going to be tuned ALL NIGHT to C-SPAN’s nonpartisan coverage of the election. I find it to be a tremendous resource — on election nights and every night.
There are a LOT of places to get live results. I tend to use Politico and the New York Times
If you are into the prediction game, the New York Times has their famous/infamous Needle and the Washington Post is debuting Post Pulse.
I really liked this history — from the LA Times — of the electoral map (and why Republicans are red and Democrats are blue)
Here’s one reporter to follow on X from every swing state: Brahm Resnik (Arizona), Greg Bluestein (Georgia), Chad Livengood (Michigan), Jon Ralston (Nevada), Danielle Battaglia (North Carolina), Jon Delano (Pennsylvania) and Jessie Opoien (Wisconsin). You can check out my FULL list of swing state reporters to follow here.
In terms of national folks to follow, David Wasserman is best in class on where races stand and when they might be called. (And listen to Wasserman on Derek Thompson’s podcast too.)
If you have 20-ish minutes to spare, check out this profile of me (and my post-CNN life) that
wrote. I thought it was a pretty damn accurate representation of my struggles and successes over the past two years. Finally, here’s a pic of me doing TV today, with the Capitol in the background. What a country.
Greetings from a US-based watch party in Carcassonne, France!
Great work Chris.
