I didn't vote for Trump, but I wonder if the people that did on the basis of the economy and immigration, have any idea of the shitshow arriving in January 2025.

The cabinet picks so far, other than Rubio, are a clear reflection of the ilk Trump wants around him. Doesn't matter your morals or values as long as you do whatever he wants.

What happened to "drain the swamp". He IS the swamp. And he's surrounding himself with the dregs, men like Hegseth and Gaetz (thankfully gone) who have no respect for women. But then again, he has none either. Hegseth is 44, on his 3rd wife, having cheated on the first two. Sound familiar.

So....Biden pardoned his son. I say Big. Fucking. Deal. He told us repeatedly he wasn't going to and then did.... Big. Fucking. Deal. I'm sick and tired of being a member of a party that takes the high road while the other party wallows in filth and the degradation of this country.

As Joe said "Enough is enough". I applaud the Biden pardon. If Trump can continue giving the country a huge middle finger, so can Joe.

When Biden said he wouldn’t pardon Hunter, he didn’t know that Trump would nominate Kash Patel to run the FBI. Given Patel’s lies about Burisma and Hunter’s “involvement” there (spoiler alert: nothing but unproven innuendo), it was clear that a weaponized FBI would target both Hunter and likely, by extension, Joe, and never let up. I’m prepared to give Joe a “pass” on this, given the nightmare of Patel at the head of the FBI: it would be a throwback to J. Edgar Hoover and his dossiers on his “enemies”, but on steroids. As awful as this stuff is, even if it wasn’t there, Hesgeth is simply not qualified for the job. Worked at a couple of small non-profits. TV “news” host. Do you think he’d even get a second look at any company with more than 100 employees? And they want to put him in charge of a company with 3 million employees, trillions of dollars budget, make life or death decisions, and deal with the military brass around the world? But then you add all this stuff? As the football pre-game guys used to say, C’mon, man.

Chris, you provide a list that includes “but is not limited to” five GOP Senators to closely monitor during the confirmation process. If I were still a working journalist I’d write a story about a sixth Senator who will be interesting to watch in the next two years: Mitch McConnell. The former GOP leader is free from having to carry the water for Trump. He is not going to run again. He’s a free agent. Trump has no leverage over him. The two men don’t like each other. Oddly, McConnell, loathed by Democrats for his unprecedented, heavy-handed, hypocritical approach to the Supreme Court confirmation process, may now side with Democrats in opposing one or more of these nominees. He’s already at loggerheads with Trump over national security issues such as support for Ukraine. He’s got nothing to lose by opposing Gabbard, whose connections with Russia and Syria, raise national security concerns. He reportedly was a no vote on Gaetz before he withdrew.

Pete might be domed, but just on the optics. Deep down, Moscow Mitch is still, and will always be, a die hard republican. He cost us a Court pick when he could have been a decent fair human, and he's never going back. He might hate trumpf, but he hates and loathers the dems more. I think it is going to be a kabuki dance where 2 or 3 of them object strongly, Susan Collins will make a deep and stirring speech, and then they will approve all of his nominees.

You’re probably, sadly, correct on all counts.

If Trump thought Hegseth was a good nominee, who did he pass over and what skeletons are in their closet? Only the finest people, right?

"Hegseth was forced to step down ... in the face of serious allegations of financial mismanagement, sexual impropriety, and personal misconduct" Of course Trump likes him, he has been accused (and in some cases convicted) of the same things.

Of course!

Hegseth, in that role and with his past would be vulnerable to many of our foreign enemies bc they’d be able to exploit his weaknesses. He is not even close to be fit for this position!

I think he may also be hurt by his position that women should not serve in combat roles. Changing this rule would. have significant impact in the military

I certainly hope so.

The majority of swing voters getting their "news" and information from social media is precisely how Trump won. Social media mostly reflects feelings, anger, resentment, vibes, and mush less actual facts relevant to the race or how the country or economy actually works. It amplifies the false and irrelevant, at the expense of the factual and important -- because that stuff is often complicated and boring.

I hope he is gone but with Trump #lolnothingmatters

Thanks for the Recommendation of Hurray for the Riff Raff. Best album of the year. I got to see them for a concert in April as well and they were fantastic! Thanks Chris!
