I've said it before, but I'll say it again: Abortion is THE issue in this presidential election, and it will be the women of this country that will decide the outcome for 2024.

GOP is completely terrified that voters will vote out of anger due to their abortion restrictions - and yet they've made NO attempt at ALL to slow down those attempts or say they'll stop. They just keep going. So give them what they deserve in November.

Women should wear this pro-choice shirt everyday 👇

I agree but would also argue that the right to IVF and contraceptives will figure heavily, if women everywhere can be made aware that anti-abortion forces have set their sights on those rights as well.

My thought exactly Pam. First of all I’m anti abortion(another story another time)

They are brutalizing women and making them chattel. This is no different than they do to women in other countries. But these same people would be screaming about that

What about the doctors that IVF and most of the contraceptives are killing babies. All those things are sperm.

The AMA and citizens should be demanding these doctors to give up their licenses. This isn’t even science

Someone who had taken HS biology knows more than these people do

What about the women that are forced to carry non-viable babies to term. Why don’t we include these babies in the exceptions

What’s next. Banning douches. I can see the police walking into a CVS and arresting some poor twenty year old clerk for murder

The people that are committing the murders are these extremist nut jobs

How barbarian

100%!!! I know for me there is no single issue that motivates my vote for a candidate.

Men care about reproductive freedom and abortion too. It should be very obvious that it took a man to get a woman pregnant and the man will be a father and have plenty of expenses when the child is born. If it is an unwanted child as a result of a forced birth it is a very sad situation for all.

This includes the fathers of daughters and sons.

The abortion issue isn't solely about codifying Roe v Wade. The next president may select anywhere from 1-3 SCOTUS justices. And ONE is way too many if Trump is president.

Chris

great post, i agree 100%. abortion/women's rights to control their bodies should be THE issue. On a happier note, you wanna know why you are going to be better than OK? Because you are not an ass. so very refreshing to see you recommend others, not just in areas that you like (music... sports) but in your own area (Fleisher). Chris, at the end of the day.... your father in law would be so damn proud of you. way to go, man!

If there was ever a chance, I think Trump’s endorsement of Hogan just killed that. Hogan needs to run as far away from Trump as he can.

When I posted that comment about Pelosi over at TAFM, I put in parentheses: "I'll now give you time to pick yourself up off the floor and retake your seat."

The comment from Trump on Pelosi cracks me up. Yeah, sure, they'd be great together. She has a lot of respect for him. I mean, really, we all saw her clapping wildly for him at the State of the Union address.

You can tell from her clapping, she's thinking, "Man, if I were just a few years younger I could really go for that guy. He's so big and strong and powerful." :O)

I wonder if Hogan is saying no no no. I don’t once your endorsement. Meanwhile the Democratic candidate is dancing on the table shouting for joy.

And the people that Trump just threw under the bus join the thousands of others. This is probably one number Trump can’t exaggerate

But it will be different this time

The abortion issue is a red herring. In order for Pres. Biden to codify Roe V. Wade he would need to win the presidency, expand the democrats lead in the senate AND flip the House. In much the same way republicans claim they want to close the border, they really want to use it a cudgel to garner votes. Abortion is the democrats border.

Expand full comment

I don’t think “red herring” is quite how I’d describe it, James.

If you’re talking about a *federal* law codifying Roe v Wade, yes, you’re correct that the House and Senate would be issues, Senate more than the House, which I think is likely to swing to Democratic control, given how small the Republican majority is and how miserably they’ve performed in this 118th Congress.

The number of States that have abortion issues on the ballot will help drive Democratic voters to GOTV, and that’s a force to reckon with!

With abortion already on the ballot in 4 states, and it likely that at least 4 more plus will happen by November, I think Chris has a good point.

Do people think about the details of needing both the Senate and the House majorities in order to do something meaningful *nationally*? I don’t think so. I think they see what the Republicans are doing across the nation to take away women’s rights, and that’s enough motivation to GOTV. And IF the Democrats make a point about the potential of the next President possibly nominating 2 members to SCOTUS and more to the federal bench, as well as *meaningful* ethics reform (and they’d be wise to do so, per Joy Vance’s excellent Civil Discourse column), I think the motivation will be huge…

Great points as always! Yes, I was referring only to the federal codifying of Roe V. Wade,

which is something the President has said repeatedly, and even if I recall correctly, during his State of the Union speech. As for the Supreme Court, I think you’re correct, unless they plan on following the RBG model and holding on until they literally die in office. Which, in my humble opinion, set in motion this whole Roe V. Wade debacle in the first place.

It is an understatement that Trump endorsing RINO Hogan is bad for Hogan.

I expect Hogan to be hammered with questions in whether he supports the felon and appreciated the endorsement. It also amplifies the message that a Hogan win may give the GOP control of the Senate. Just remind people that it was because of a GOP majority that we have the SCOTUS we have and how disastrous the House is because of Republican control. Imagine the Senate with JD Vance and Tuperville having more power.

Chris thank you for the tip about Gabe I received his news letter about Substack and I'm so excited! As a Marylander I'm heartbroken that Trump is pretending publicly to endorse him. He was an outstanding Governor here in our blue state. It's a underhanded play by TFG and only done because someone had enough sense to remind him how bad they need that Senate seat. I fear this will crush his chances

Which is the best of the G7 nations AND is substantially better by ANY metrics you want to use: unemployment, wage increases, stock market and hence our 401(k)s, etc.

And did you not read the charts, @dutchmaga? Women are pissed and EMPOWERED that your Dear Leader took away a Constitutional right guaranteed for over 50 years (after they lied to the Senate Judiciary Committee in their confirmation hearings about stare decisis).

Go ahead and underestimate the LARGEST group of voters in America, ie women! Keep on doing it and you’ll get a repeat of 2020…

Go to the grocery store buy some gas. There’s a reason Biden approval is lower than any incumbent seeking reelection. You have a bad candidate and even worse ticket. The hand writing is on the wall. So sorry

But you go ahead and vote for the guy that had to meet with his parole officer this week. Or the guy that sent 11 people to the hospital with heat exhaustion in Las Vegas and literally said “I don’t care about you. I just want your vote.” Or the guy that doesn’t understand that batteries in seawater will *not* electrocute you and shark attacks are no more prevalent than ever. And what did that have to do with *anything*? Oh, yeah! His teleprompter failed and this is what his “stream-of-consciousness “ is. Or the guy that looks like he’s losing the state of Wisconsin, but still has to say that “Milwaukee is horrible.”

If you can’t see the obvious cognitive decline, it’s probably because you’re suffering from the same, old man.
