Hey Chris, when you become famous, I hope you don't forget about all of your substack fans!

The great mystery related to Trump supporters is their willingness to compartmentalize Trumps indecency, treating that character flaw like an issue they may disagree with. Bottom line..he is a fundamentally bad person. That should disqualify him from the presidency.

I think Kamala knows how to move to the middle. Those voters you were talking about maybe old-fashioned conservatives for the most part with some vague moderate to independent voter type instincts. They are decent judges of character, and so therefore Trump doesn’t cut it. What amazes me is that they somehow think that he is competent on some level. They seem to ignore that he is not a conservative. He is a radical authoritarian. Why they can’t see that and that the choice is clear kind of blows my mind. All they care about is money in their pockets? Maybe they have character issues. Either they are very confusing people or I just don’t know enough about them.

But the economy is HUMMING under Biden, as it always does under Democrats! How can so many people be so stupid ??

I believe in 2016, Clinton brought Trump's co-author of Art of the Deal to "rattle" him. But it's hard to top Trump's troll game.

Here's how I would consider the debate optics:

2016: an older man and older woman squabbling, like they were going through a nasty divorce. Sad all around.

2020: two old guys, one friendlier than the other

2024 (I): two old guys, one more confused than the other

2024 (II): an older man and younger woman, and the bemused younger woman essentially saying, "you're out of my league."

Welp ...

It appears that DonOLD imploded last night. Lewendowski's "let Trump be Trump" is who showed up to the debate. He just could not leave anything untouched. I was only able to take the first 30 minutes because I just cannot listen to DonOLD much any more.

I did catch the bit on Minneapolis has burned to the ground. Since I live in the Twin Cities metro, I hate to rain on DonOLD's parade, but Minneapolis is just fine. And, oh, by the way, YOU (DonOLD) were the President when that event occurred and you praised our Governor (now VP candidate) for his response.

As to those "begrudging Trump voters". They care more about themselves than they do about America even though I am sure, to a one, they would call themselves Patriots. I don't think there is much Harris can do to win them over. BUT ... I do think that Walz might have a better chance appealing to them. I am just not sure you'll peal enough of them off.

Thank you for adding the "Where's Chris" section - love it!!

I know this was sent pre-debate, but couldn’t find where else to comment immediately.

I am a bit shocked that the media hasn’t focused a bit more on one utterance that Trump made. In the question about whether or not Harris is black, Trump essentially called her a whore. He said “I heard she put out”. I find it incomprehensible this is being ignored. Don’t believe me? Look at the official ABC transcript or just the video.

DAVID MUIR: President Trump, thank you. I want to move on now to race and politics in this country. Mr. President, you recently said of Vice President Harris, "I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black." I want to ask a bigger-picture question here tonight. Why do you believe it's appropriate to weigh in on the racial identity of your opponent?

FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I don't. And I don't care. I don't care what she is. I don't care. You make a big deal out of something. I couldn't care less. Whatever she wants to be is okay with me.

DAVID MUIR: But those were your words. So, I'm asking --

FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I don't know. I don't know. All I can say is I read where she was not Black, that she put out. And, I'll say that. And then I read that she was black. And that's okay. Either one was okay with me. That's up to her. That's up to her.”

Glossing over that seems like a lot of sane washing for the media to live with. Had she called him a philandering serial cheater, it would have been accurate, but widely reported on. To paraphrase the great James Earl Jones, ‘the double standard is strong with this one.’

She decidedly did not need to speak to the begrudging Trump voters. They are already poisoned to Democrats.

Comparing the digital ad spend between X and Snapchat is interesting.

Notably how the Snapchat spend from the the Biden-Harris campaign is more than the next nine combined.

Also for the snapchat:

1) Why is TeamSnapchat, whoever that is, buying political advertising on Snapchat? They aren't getting many impressions for their spend.

2) Islamic Relief USA is not political, but Patagonia is? Who knew the southern part of Argentina and Chile was so interested in US politics :) [I assume it's really a PAC funded by Patagonia, Inc.?]

Did she really say her economic plan is endorsed by Goldman Sachs? Just wow. Made a commercial for Team Trump right there.

Goldman Sachs reviewed both Harris’s and Trump’s economic “plans” (such that Trump has one, other than tax cuts for the wealthy & corporations, and tariffs for the rest of us), and have said that the economy would thrive under Harris-Walz and would potentially lead into recession under Trump-Vance.

How do you see *that* as a commercial for “Team Trump”? Since the economy appears to be the most important issue to voters, and Goldman Sachs can be considered experts on economics, I see that as “giving permission” for fiscal conservatives to vote for the Democrat, confident in the knowledge that she will be “better” for the economy….

I understand how hard it is not to vote for your part, but if I were a Republican I would be too ashamed to vote for Donald Trump.

Also, I’d be worried about how bad it could get with his chaos. I know that the Democrat will be normal.

Policy and decency. It seems important (at least to me) to mention that there are those of us who strongly support Vice-president Harris for policy positions. It is certainly true that the Biden/Harris administration has put more money into my bank accounts and investments but it is equally true that this old guy wants the country to thrive for the future of my grown children and our granddaughter. Vice-president Harris. Policy and decency. What a combination!
