You're right, worm brain, he was a terrible President, even a poll showed he finished last🙄 and they wonder why people hate politicians.

Joe Biden was a good, decent President who got some important legislation passed. But what I loved most about him was that I didn't have to wake up every morning, heart in throat, wondering what had happened overnight, the way I did when Trump was President. It was dread, disgust, anxiety, angst and any other negative emotion you can think of on a daily basis for four years. Calm waters with Joe.

I'll be 74 in November, right after the election. The thought of spending the last few years of my 7th decade with Trump as President fills me with a dread I can't even describe. I'm too old for chaos and drama. As in 2020, I pray every day.🙏

Your 2nd paragraph describes exactly how I felt during the trump presidency!

Chris,

You wrote, "to lay a wreath at the graves of the 13 servicemen killed in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan" I know that at least two of those killed were women, not servicemen but service women, please try and be inclusive of all the victims, thanks.

And, no, it is still against the law to have a photographer, or to campaign, in that section of Arlington, even if some of the family members invited the djt team in. There are headstones of other service members visible in the released campaign photos who did not give approval and who are now upset at their loved one being used in this way. And that is one reason for that law.

It is hugely disrespectful what the djt campaign did here!

NPR reports that Arlimgton officials made it very clear BEFORHAND that campaigning and photographers were not allowed, yet they showed up and bullied their way in anyways and now are lying about the incident! On top of all the other disrespect djt has shown to the military I think this is way over the top and WILL matter come election day.

And Trump's motive for visiting those graves? While I admit to a certain level of cynicism, I have no doubt that he was *not* there to honor the fallen, praise their valor, and give thanks for their sacrifice. It was a purely a photo-op to counter the narratives from John Kelly, H.R. McMaster, et al about Trump's disrespect for the military. But Team Trump uses bluster and faux outrage to push their version of events. Chaos reigns!

It Trump gets elected (and perhaps even if he doesn’t) there will be national carnage for years. Everyone knows that but folks tend to put their heads in the sand to avoid the thought. The media pundits. Oh how they spin it to drive advertising revenue. But it’s coming. It won’t be fun. For anyone.

Do those convention viewership stats take into consideration how many of us no longer watch traditional TV? This was the first convention in easily 20 years of which I watched any part: via YouTube and on my phone.

Same I watched/listened to each night in full the day after on YouTube on my phone at work.

Rep. Gallagher and those like him (on both sides) are exactly what is wrong with American politics. Everyone feels free to “be themselves” once they leave, but are too afraid to be themselves while in office. Perhaps if more people stuck with their intrinsic core values, we wouldn’t be in this ridiculous political climate we are in.

Excellent Chris. I saw the video that the Trump team released from the Arlington cemetery visit. Trump narrates it, and he says when he was president, the US suffered zero casualties in the final 18 months, when negotiating the Doha Agreement. Problem is that 15 service members died in the final 18 months under hostile fire..

The man is a delusional fabulist and serial liar. Chaos doesn’t begin to describe Donnie dementia. He is a reckless, narcissistic and incompetent nut job.

In our household we worked hard, saved our money, invested wisely and, clearly, achieved the "American Dream." And achieving that had nothing to do with Trump. At the same time, we are now fortunate enough to be in a position to modestly help others, here and in other parts of the world. For us, being able to do that is also part of the American Dream. Alas, if only Trump et al could share that objective, huh?

Chris, excellent post tonight. The part about Trump chaos was a great analysis.

He's probably going to nft that photo taken at ANC grave where he is grinning from ear to ear with a thumbs up. Why did he give someone who died a thumbs up? Why is he smiling like he is enjoying this person's death instead of being sombre? Why did he not go to ANC in 2022 or 2023?

Chaos certainly is the symptom. Psychopathology is the cause.

A nitpick: Maybe not the best stock photo choice for point 2 tonight given the catalyst of point 1 today.

Here is an even more telling quote from that WaPo piece on Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher:

>The story turns on a gruesome moment the night of Dec. 30, 2023, in Gallagher’s hometown of Green Bay. The local sheriff had received an anonymous call claiming that Gallagher had been shot in the face and that his wife and two young daughters, 3 and 1, had been taken hostage. A SWAT team arrived at the house to find Gallagher and his family safe. His anguished wife, Anne, somehow had the presence of mind to ask the SWAT team to take their shoes off before they searched the home. But for the young couple, trying to build a family in the town where they were born and raised, the cruel hoax was a deeply upsetting event.

Wow. How truly disgusting. Why would *anyone* want to serve if you’re putting your entire family at risk?! And he’s a friggin’ conservative Republican, for god’s sake!
