I absolutely give credit to any R politician who refuses to back Trump. But I'm not sure how much it matters to rank and file voters. For those like McConnell , Thune, etc, who have bent the knee, there is a special place in Hell. It was one thing to back Trump the first time around when one could hope (however foolishly) that he'd act responsible and cut the madman act once in office. But after 4 years of lunacy and an attempted coup, there are no excuses. I hold the same low opinion of the voters who even consider voting for that malignant narcissist and know-nothing.

If Republicans had had the courage to convict Trump in his second impeachment (how awful, crazy does that sound?!) they would not be in the spot they're in. If in the privacy of the voting booth, they had not voted for the tffg, they could have saved themselves and the country a lot of grief.

Tommy Tupperville is nothing but consistent with his chauvinistic views and his willingness to spout them.

Take a well deserved break Chris.

Thank you for spotlighting the Never Trump Senators.

Bill Cassidy voted to convict, curious if he endorses.

“It’s a MUCH smaller crowd. But they deserve recognition for standing on principle.”

Kind of a half a principle since they all seem to be saying they’re not voting for anyone who’s capable of winning. I suppose we take small victories, tho.

You can say you’re writing in Zombie Ronald Reagan or whoever, but as things stand today there are only two people who can conceivably become president. If you’re not voting for one of them, you’re really not voting.

The fact that they’re not voting for anybody doesn’t exonerate them for me.

If they truly want to get rid of Trump, they need to be supporting and voting for Biden. That’s the only way out of this mess!

If the rebuttal was to be given by a house husband who was also a member of Congress, would the place chosen for him to deliver said rebuttal from be the kitchen? I think not!

While I find it mildly satisfying that there are "Never Trumpers" out there, I think it's foolhardy on the part of people to say "I won't vote for Trump, but I won't vote for Biden either." For former Governor of Maryland Larry Hogan, or Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska to say they will vote for NEITHER candidate, is immature and irresponsible. How can they justify sitting on their hands while the rest of us show up and try to make a difference? I'm very disappointed in their attitudes.

Think about all of the research, planning and speech coaching for the Republican response to the SOTU and tell all of the women in your life who are voters. “She was picked as a housewife, not just a senator, somebody who sees it from a different perspective.” — Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville on Newsmax explained the selection of his home state colleague and youngest at 42-years old Senator Katie Britt to give the Republican response to the State of the Union. /Republicans put a US Senator in a kitchen for their SOTU response. Among the talking points for post-speech reaction distributed to Republicans: "America's Mom", "one of us," compare her conclusion to President Reagan's "Mr. Gorbachev Tear Down This Wall" speech in Berlin, Germany in front of the Berlin Wall, “reminiscent of Reagan’s message of that Shining City on a Hill.” Donald Trump Truth Social post excerpt: "She was compassionate and caring, especially concerning Women and Women's Issues," Batteries not included.

Wonder if she was trying to imitate Brie Larson in the TV show ‘Lessons in Chemistry.’

If that’s the case, she completely missed the mark (and looked more like a brainwashed very poor rendition of Elizabeth Moss in ‘Handmaiden’s Tale’!)

Stepford Wives and Handmaid's Tale both fit. I got a M3GHAN vibe, too. She's ambitious and accepted the spotlight role. She worked hard to speak the words and act the role constructed for her by the GOP to appeal to Trump/GOP weakness among college educated women. Sen. Tuberville said that Sen. Britt was selected by GOP to respond to Biden's SOTU for her perspective as the youngest Senator (42) and a Mom. GOP selected as HER location a kitchen. GOP experts wrote the text based on extensive research. GOP experts coached her on her delivery. GOP expert PR talking points billed her as "America's Mom." Her "performance" reflected her internal discomfort and rebellion against all of the demands placed upon her to project Trump & the GOP's desired image of "America's Mom" talking directly to other "Women" about "Women's issues." The result is more like a proof of life video by a hostage under duress. That's a tell and instructive about the impact of backlash by voters against GOP's versions of "pro-life" policies that put all of the economic burdens and personal consequences of sex and parenting upon women and forcibly limits their access to options to lighten those burdens.

Thanks, Chris!

So, quick question: I seem to notice that you’ll typically post a poll that shows Biden down, but frequently don’t post the polls that show Biden pulling ahead. Simon Rosenberg, a Democratic strategist, posted 4 new polls today that show Biden up. How about your thoughts on them?

Kaiser Family Foundation. 47%-44% Biden. Up 7% since last poll.

Emerson. 51%-49% Biden. Up 3% since last poll.

Morning Consult. 44%-43% Biden. Up 5% since last poll.

TIPP. 43%-42% Biden. Up 3% since last poll.

I listened to Biden's delivery of SOTU - as many others across the U.S. - and felt a sense of pride in our President and our nation. Yes, we are still a country where justice rules, values are important, truth persists, and hatred has no place unless you are announcing your own ignorance - as Greene continues to do right on cue.

And yes, Biden's age should no longer be an issue after this delightful, pointed, and articulate narrative - one laced with laughter yet with a deep grasp of the "real" and dangerous issues facing our nation today. He literally told Putin that he has no intention of backing down or bowing down - which brought a broad smile to my face! As Putin is hell-bent on marching toward world domination, he now knows that the U.S. - as long as Biden is in the White House - will be his foe along with all the power and might of the United States of America.

The choice between the two Presidential candidates this year should be easy but for so many, it is a struggle between their life-long commitment to the Republican Party and Trump's corrupt, hateful, and deceitful path - he is a criminal spreading disinformation and falsehoods. The Bible-belt area and devout Christians are unaware that they have chosen to worship a fake God. We can only hope that their faith will help them see the light before the November election.

Thankyou for your insightful and informative messaging Chris.

A technical note. I just tried watching the replay of your watch party for the SOTU. When you talk, the volume on the person speaking is basically lowered. For folks like me who have trouble hearing when there is background noise, it makes it much harder to fully hear Biden and follow the speech.

I have not tears for any converted GOP Senator specially those who voted to acquit Trump and who helped him to be elected in 2016.

McConnell is a miserable Senator who stole a Supreme Court judge and many judges President Obama nominated. Many of those judges like Judge Cannon are now delaying the prosecution of the criminal behavior of indicted Trump.

Stop writing analysis like this is 2008.
