I agree this is an opportunity for Harris to make an impact on some possible undecided Republican voters. However, I think it is incorrect to say she hasn't answered tough questions. The standard for her seems to be different than the standard for the former president. When Trump was asked a difficult question, he deflects with ridiculous narratives and outright lies. What difficult question has any Fox host asked Trump? Two issues for Harris, the first is she's a woman and the political word is dominated by men and women have to jump ten times higher to make it. To say she isn't qualified is ridiculous. Second, confirmed Fox viewers have been listening to lies for years and believe them. When facts don't support the lies, Fox says the facts are "fake" or you can't trust the data. What are the other hosts going to say after her interview? It's not hard to guess Laura Ingraham's pithy responses. They will spin her responses all kinds of ways to make them fit their false narrative and that's only if they actually show her responses. I hope there are some reasonable people watching that are smart enough to recognize the spin, but I seriously doubt it.
Kamala has a lot of guts to be interviewed on Fox. Does it have to be a break from Biden or can it be a springboard for improvement? She has to keep pounding on Trump’s squashing the bipartisan immigration bill. Trump is a coward. No second debate, no 60 minutes. Only talks to the far right media. Kamala has to play hardball with Baier. She has it in her, she just needs to do it.
Trump only does friendly cites that let him blather on with lies and crazy talk. He couldn't handle 60 Minutes bc they were going to fact check him. He's a pussy and a fraud.
Chris , immigration is only MAGA main issue. I know you like polls a lot, Abortion is named the most important issue by most Americans in that NBC poll you have being quoting all day long .
I dare the MAGA leader to go on MSNBC for a sit down interview and show how unintelligent he is.
Here, here Doctor. Everything is blamed on immigrants. It's a disgrace. Dump doesn't have the balls to do anything other than friendly outlets. In case anybody's keeping score, it's the women in this country who are trying to save us from Trump.
I disagree that Harris should name Lankford or any specific Republican as her DHS secretary should she win the election. Trump would be on the phone with whoever she named before the interview was even over, applying enormous pressure to disavow any interest in joining Harris' administration. In fact, Harris should say exactly that when no doubt she would be pressed by Brett Baier to name someone. Trump killed the bipartisan border deal before, so he can be expected to derail a potential DHS secretary because it's not in his best interest.
I think I would agree that naming a name would be unproductive for the reasons you stated; however, pledging an unnamed Republican as DHS Secretary might be a better suggestion. While Harris has indicated she will name a Republican to her cabinet, I’m not sure DHS is one that she should offer. Now having said that, DHS Secretary is going to be under heat (almost a no win position) regardless of party affiliation, so that might make perfect sense to give it to a Republicans.
I think Chris' analysis of VP Harris' campaign demonstrates why he has been a journalist and not a political operative. But, worse, is his comment -- and he has been insistent on this -- that President Biden's policies are unpopular. No, they are not. Chris loves polls, as has been pointed out elsewhere, so he should understand that when most of the president's policies are polled they show significant support. Abortion. Health care. Climate change. And the DJI hit another record high today. You say the stock market isn't the economy? Yeah, to some of us it certainly is!
There is absolutely no reason to throw Biden over the side. Aside from the disloyalty, it won’t change anybody’s mind. I don’t believe the polls and I don’t believe that she needs to do this interview. It is however gutsy on her part to do it, and she should use it to make it clear that she offers more than Trump. She should also attack Trump’s commitment to the wealthy at the expense of working Americans. None of this requires turning on Biden.
Thank you! Turning on Biden who has given her this opportunity would be disgraceful and I don’t think Kamala would be that type of person! Biden has been a steady presence and is a good man and has been a good president. Why is it that every one now wants to tear him down and claim he’s not well liked , where is that coming from? Most likely the press! So he’s aged, that happens to the best of us we don’t tear someone down because they got older, that’s disgusting, it’s part of life. It seems that Trump has also gotten older as well but along with that he’s also got dementia but the press mostly ignores that, why is that? The remark on Biden getting older but not on Trumps DEMENTIA! Not reporting fairly in the least, driving the country towards a sick Fascist. I am really disgusted with the press trying to drive us towards Fascism, for what purpose?
How ironic that the fate of our Republic may lie in the hands of a Foxnews employee. If Baier treats KH fairly, asking tough but legitimate questions, while also giving her ample time to make her case-without pulling a Hannity and interrupting constantly- Fox viewers will learn that despite Trumps lies about her, Kamala is a smart, capable, tough, and presidential woman. And that may be enough to get her across the finish line.
Chris, I just checked the ratings for Sept 2024. 60 minutes had 8 million more viewers than Special Report with Bret Baier, so when you say Harris' interview is important because it will be a massive audience, "a GIANT platform", I do not understand what you are talking about.
Well, both things, according to CBS. Her full answer to the question was the two sentences put together — the first sentence used on “Face the Nation” and the second sentence on “60 Minutes.”
CBS said the need to make the “60 Minutes” interview segment concise prompted the editing. The full interview with Harris took 45 minutes, and it was fit into a 20-minute slot on the broadcast.
"...The network has pointed out that the same process was in place when Trump was interviewed for the show several times earlier."
"The show sometimes airs longer versions of interviews online but does not release unedited transcripts."
60 minutes has always edited responses in order to fit them into their limited time.
And, ALL networks and publications have been editing and sanewashing all of djt's comments in order to have them make any sense to their viewers. Without that editing and sanewashing, no one would even know what the heck he is talking about because he rambles on and on about unrelated grievances and thoughts that pop into his head, with incomplete sentences and made up words, and goes on meaningless tangents, the very definition of word salad on display every day
And the 60 minutes interview was not a friendly interview. It was very tough. I don’t mind that, but enough with this idea that she only has soft interviews. And strategically thinking, what is in it for Harris to sit for tough interviews when the number one through ten reasons to vote for her are that she is not the demented, fascist, traitor, felon, rapist, traitor, candidate.
My advice is to answer every question by saying “that’s a good question, but it isn’t as important as saving all of us from the scary liar who will destroy the country if he is elected. Just as Liz Cheney says, it’s not the policies, it’s. To keep Donald Trump out of the White House,”
A Cilliza/Todd strategy seems to concede Trump’s point that immigrants (aka “the OTHER”) are responsible for our country’s woes. Why? Because many Americans have bought into Trump’s fascist worldview? Really? To let the polls decide right and wrong? No, there has to be a better strategy.
You know what cracks me up about both political and sports analysts? They're so opinionated about what the candidate or quarterback should do. They have 100 different ideas. Not a knock, just an observation. Don't you think maybe the campaign manager and the team coach may know a little something more than you do?
If I were on Kamala Harris' campaign advisory team and she asked for ideas on how to appeal to undecided voters while talking with Fox News I would encourage her to tone down the abortion rights rhetoric. Her constant use of the bodily autonomy argument to support abortion rights fails to consider that the majority of Americans - including self-identified Pro-choice Americans - believe there are limits on bodily autonomy when it comes to this issue. Polls have shown consistently over the years that the majority of Americans favor some restrictions on abortion:
A May 1-24, 2023, survey asked about the legality of abortion at different stages of pregnancy and found about two-thirds of Americans saying it should be legal in the first trimester (69%), while support drops to 37% for the second trimester and 22% for the third. Majorities oppose legal abortion in the second (55%) and third (70%) trimesters. (https://news.gallup.com/poll/321143/americans-stand-abortion.aspx).
There are a whole bunch of moderately Pro-choice voters out there who do not want to vote for Trump but are turned off by Kamala's extreme abortion rhetoric. What do I mean by "tone down"? Maybe suggest that abortion needs to be legal and safe but let's work together as a society to provide the resources and support that women need who find themselves in difficult circumstances so that they don't feel like abortion is their only option in order to survive. She has nothing to lose for toning it down. She's not going to lose any support from those who have already decided to vote for her. Just sayin'.
People have commented that Trump could conceivably serve as president from a jail cell. Well, maybe he can serve as Sec'y of HS from a jail cell. I mean, he is a stable genius. He told us so. Although staff meetings would probably have to be conducted via Zoom or a similar app. And meetings couldn't be scheduled during Trump's exercise period in the prison yard. I'm sure they will figure it all out! :-)
Maybe she could explain these newly discovered plagiarism allegations! Why did she take credit for things she didn’t do and site nonexistent sources in her criminal justice book Smart on Crime? Kinda like Ole JB back in ‘88!
"While the excerpts are missing quotation marks, some of the examples do include footnote citations, though the New York Times notes that the AP case cites a separate report as its source. The passages in question concern background material, rather than anecdotes or arguments presented as Harris’ own.
"The New York Times reviewed the allegations and ran them by Jonathan Bailey, the publisher of Plagiarism Today, who sounded largely unimpressed. “This amount of plagiarism amounts to an error and not an intent to defraud,” he said."
Not exactly true and certainly not the equivalent of raping, cheating, lying thousands of times, lying about his college grades and threatening to sue said Universities if they release his grades, so many lies! The stupidity is beyond belief! How anyone can champion this person is beyond belief. How can anyone trust someone who would vote for this criminal? One can only deduce that those who would have no moral core, are EMPTY. It’s like 1933 all over again. On top of all that he has Dementia and both parents died of Alzheimer’s! Unbelievable! Those who who would vote for “Him” will be to blame if he wins and we lose our country! It’s that serious! How can you?
When djt does it, it's because the change benefits himself, it's never because new facts emerged, or new circumstances warrant it. I can not think of even one time djt has changed a position based on new evidence, or growth in his personal perspective, can you?
Touché!! But to insist that VP Harris’ flip flopping, or pardon me, “mature adulting” isn’t strictly to benefit herself is laughable. If Pennsylvania wasn’t in play, she would have never moved off her anti-fracking stance. If Michigan and Wisconsin weren’t in play she would have never “mature adulted” off her gun control stance. I will absolutely give you that for former Pres. Trump it’s almost a move to pad his pockets, but one could make an argument that VP Harris is no better.
Harris never said she wanted all cars electric by 2045, and, the VP or Prez could not impose such a thing anyways.
Djt was very opposed to EV cars and called them terrible etc at every rally, until Musk endorsed him, now djt is all in on EV's and suppprts them 100%! Which means he only takes a posotion when it benefits himself, first it benifitted him to trash talk EV's which got lots of applause for him at rallies, now it benefits him to support Musk who promised to donate millions of dollars to djt's campaign
Trump is transactional. He doesn't do anything for anybody unless he gets something in return. He's an empty vessel, empty suit, with no real beliefs or values of his own. I'm not telling anyone to watch the movie "The Apprentice" but it explains in detail how Trump became Trump. The two men in his life who formed him were his father Fred and Roy Cohn. Yes! He has absolutely no principals beyond 'what's in it for me!'
It's not really half the country, it's more like 20% to 25% which make up the portion of maga voters.
The problem is, we are lucky if we get half the eligible voters to actually vote. Traditionally there have been more D's registeted to vote than R's, but R's have often had bigger turnouts. This time tho, with abortion rights on the line plus the threat of more years of djt chaos, anger, threats, division, sucking up to dictators, and endless whining, I am not sure if R's will turn out more voters. That remains to be seen...

Politicians do what’s expedient in the moment. Trump is anti-crypto, then he’s pro-crypto. He’s pro abortion, then he puts together the court that overturns roe v wade. You put the same scrutiny to Trump?
and I'll take her flip flopping over his cruelty, racism, and lies every day of the week and twice on Sunday. I don't know if I'm being overly hyperbolic, but I wonder if we'll still be able to write anti-Trump comments on this platform, if, God forbid a million times, he gets elected. Anybody else feel the same?
I agree this is an opportunity for Harris to make an impact on some possible undecided Republican voters. However, I think it is incorrect to say she hasn't answered tough questions. Spot on. Chris is a very good writer, but his near obsession with polls and lists takes away from deeper issues stories.
There is absolutely no reason to throw Biden over the side. Aside from the disloyalty, it won’t change anybody’s mind. From your lips to God's ear, but I'm not hopeful that one interview can cure the inoculated.

It’s not the numbers. It’s who’s watching. A Fox audience, compared to 60 Minutes, is bringing the fight to the opposition.
True. But that is not what Chris wrote, he wrote it is a a GIANT platform.
CBS egregiously edited her answers and will not release a transcript.
That's MAGA bullshit, get outta here with that. Another Trump lie.

Oh please.......

Me too, I honestly don't understand what he is talking about. May he forgets that we all have access to Nielson's TV ratings.

Chris, I just watched the documentary “Active Measures” and it is so very damaging to Trump. Why is the Harris campaign not jumping all over this?
You know what cracks me up about both political and sports analysts? They're so opinionated about what the candidate or quarterback should do. They have 100 different ideas. Why was djt so against EV's, then became the biggest EV supporters after Musk endorsed him?
Geez, Louise, what a mystery. Because it's as a commenter above said, it's politically expedient for him now to embrace Musk. Plus the $$$$$$$
Your beloved Kamala also stated that all cars by 2045 would be electric and then changed her mind. Also changed her mind on fracking. Oh and guns.
