In watching The Rise of the Nazis on PBS, the phrase passive complacency is used to describe the German populace. That is how Hitler gained power. He started by misdirection, saying exactly what Trump said: “What you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening “. THAT is the real danger with Trump and his cult. Ignoring the flashing red lights was one of the causes of January 6. If elected he will be the dictator he has always wanted to be. If not elected, he will foment civil unrest. I pray that the rule of law will triumph and he eventually will be in jail.
I come from PA Dutch country originally so our German roots were obvious. I've spent a LOT of time in my long life wondering what I would have done if I'd been there as Hitler was rising to power. Would I have been a sheep? Would I have been brave and part of the resistance?
Never came to any real conclusion and certainly NEVER thought it might actually happen here in my life. I am forced to admit I still have no answers.
And doing what should have been done with the Bundy "rebellion" and the January 6 insurrection - i.e., kill a few thousand of them - will send the rest scurrying back under their rocks where they belong.
Sorry, TC, but mass murder of people you don’t agree with is *not* the right path forward. I know there’s an element of sarcasm/humor in your comment, but still…..
Facts are only facts to believers. I still wonder how he can bamboozle so many people with absolutely craziness. This girl will not follow the pied piper. Scary though.
Again, I am concerned and puzzled by the willingness of so many people to reject facts. I can only wonder how many are making very bad life decisions apart from believing Trump's lies. Vaccinations come to mind as an example.
After the vaccines were available, the number of “excess deaths”, ie more than the typical number of deaths and attributed to COVID-19, affected 43% more Republicans than Democrats in Florida and Ohio, the two states that tracked this. That’s a heck of a lot more Republicans! And all because they chose *not* to get vaccinated….
And it was pretty much true elsewhere, too. Like my doctor said to me back in March 2020, "A pandemic is Evolution's IQ test: are you smart enough to take this information and modify your behavior so as to maximize the likelihood of your survival? It's pass/fail."
I’ve said for quite awhile that his followers are all part of a cult. This is beyond comprehension, for me. I can not for the life of me understand how so many people believe in the lies. How can people even stand to look at him, listen to him?
That poll supports my belief that the only thing "esceptional" about the United States is the exceptional moron stupidity of the average native-born bozo.
I think that’s probably the crux of how his Cult Members have become so loyal to him: he hates the same people *they* do AND he says what they’re thinking out loud and on television, making it OK.
That’s one of the things I never had to think about it my household growing up: though both of my parents have been gone for a very long time, my dad was a staunchly pro-union Democrat (he was a rough construction carpenter) and wouldn’t have allowed ANYONE to come into his house and spew “Republican bullshit”….
He lived a decent life and had a comfortable retirement that his union provided him with. Having seen the results of his being a union member firsthand, I have *always* been a fervent union supporter (though even my pro-union dad thought the Teamsters were corrupt….)
Some folks prefer and seek to be gaslighted. They want to believe their own world view. Trump's lies fit within the range of what they believe. Same argument over and over. Cities dangerous. Those Non-White people are threatening, lazy, terrible parents, devils, etc.
I’m surprised that a lot of people don’t remember that the pied piper took the children. Wanted to point out the irony of Trump being the piper in this analogy and not being paid. That’s turning things around.
Can’t wait to see what happens to the cultists when he’s gone because memento mori and all.
I think in a way it will end the same way. When Trump loses in November, and I believe he will, he will lead his “children,” the cult followers down the dark path of denial yet again. And the Republican Party as we now know it will disappear. Good riddance.
Trump keeps saying that if he loses the election, we won't have a country anymore. Fine. I hope he moves to some deserted island and takes all of his supporters with him...if he's not in jail.
Have you noticed that Trump basically is acting as the speaker now? I mean, his influence, which has been pretty unbreakable for a while now, is just getting deeper and more ingrained by the day. Johnson is just a placeholder, a proxy for Trump. I keep wondering how much further the GOP can sink in their fealty and complete and total obedience, and they keep finding new ways to go even lower.
As others have noted, if FOX Noise had been around during Watergate, Nixon never would have resigned.
“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

It isn't mass murder when defending a position against an assault by armed opponents. It's war.

I was hoping that COVID would be more effective than it was as a tool to reduce the population of Republicans.

Precisely. My sister-in-law said, at that time, “Who knew a vaccine could also function as an IQ test?”
I’ve said for quite awhile that his followers are all part of a cult. This is beyond comprehension, for me. I can not for the life of me understand how so many people believe in the lies. How can people even stand to look at him, listen to him?

Honestly I believe more than half of "followers" of Trump absolutely know he is the worst but they also would NEVER vote for a Democrat.
They don't care that Trump doesn't care about democracy. They just don't want Democrats to win 😑
They like that he hates the same people they hate.

I've heard it from the mouth of my parents MANY times
Sorry to hear that.

Not sure if these 4 Cult Members are all that atypical...

Are not the MAGA minions the true RHINOS?

From your lip to ---- the election box? I SO hope you're right!
If we, as a nation, allow Donald J Trump to assume the presidency, then we will deserve him.

This analogy to the Pied Piper is really frightening.
I am very concerned for the future of America!
