I welcome it. I also think that articulators like Newsome, AOC, and Pete Butigieg, who are excellent communicators and unafraid, are greatly needed in the conversation. I've never seen Butigieg not hear well, respond well, and usually hold even or win an argument. The DEMS, if smart, would be great to hire some of these to hold an opposition town hall, or alternate press conference, so as to contrast (and do it well, not just attack) with content the current president's amazingly bumbling, incoherent and unAmerican press conference. If AP is banned, put on one right after the current administrations and DO IT BETTER and INFORM THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. This should have happened a month ago. But now is not too late.

Read this morning that Republicans are being urged NOT to do town halls by the party leadership.

Another California politician! California is an example to the nation, what could possibly go wrong for Democrats? Maybe he could put a New Yorker on the ticket, Americans would really respond!

I hear your point, but as the chart Chris posted the other day shows, more than 10% of the US population lives in California. That’s huge! So I think it’s unrealistic to dismiss anyone from the state. It’s a heavyweight, period. Same as Texas and Florida, but even more so.

Should be a national electoral non starter for the foreseeable future unless the politician was a contrarian anti-Calstablishment figure.

Please nothing is wrong w California. We r all woke which maggots despise. Why care of marginalized individuals, care of others than only yourself. Yes California is a great place to be...u don't like then don't visit

The goal of elections is to win the game.

So let’s put someone from the red south that has welfare instincts or someone from the Midwest that is disintegrating from zero infrastructure

Right. They at least have an idea of how to attract swing voters without having had to kowtow to their Left flank.

He’s starting a PODCAST!!! There is NO announcement of running for president. This is only what this writer is thinking.

Linda

Trust me. I know what he is doing here.

Heh. Chris you also said that Josh Shapiro would be the running mate of Kamala Harris. So we should take what you say with a grain of salt. :D

Having said that, there will likely be about 25 Democrats running for POTUS just like in 2019/20. Newsom will surely be in the mix.

Expand full comment

No. I said she SHOULD have picked Shapiro. And I stand by that!

Expand full comment

In retrospect, the best thing that happened to Josh was that he wasn't picked. I told him so myself and he didn't argue, just smiled. I doubt they would have won with him, and this way his winning record is unblemished.

It’s your opinion only. There IS NO announcement.

I mean, obviously? My job is not to tell you what is happening. My job is to tell you why it’s happening.

I think these tea leaves are fairly easy to read at this point.

Zero reason for Newsom to engage in this manner if he is sitting out 2028.

Expand full comment

Unless you recall his history of having a show before.

Expand full comment

Ok. I'll play along.

What is it that you think he is doing? What are his true motivations for creating.....or re-creating a podcast that engages in this manner?

Bc you clearly don't think CC's reading the tea leaves correctly.

Agree with you, Chris.

Let's hope there IS an election in 2028.

Newsom cannot be the nominee for Dems in 28.

Though he is straight out of central casting, his nomination would be a gift to Republicans.

Expand full comment

I agree.

Expand full comment

Why?

Expand full comment

Ah, Newsom. California is famously bureaucratic and nigh-unaffordable to live in. Presiding over that does not exactly scream 'presidential material' to me. Maybe I'm missing something.

JB PRITZKER FOR PRESIDENT. Newsome has major competition in Mr Pritzker. After Pritzker's State of the State speech, I would bet that is the catalyst for his podcast. If you have not listened to Mr. Pritzker. Sanity will return with him.

Expand full comment

As a longtime resident of Illinois let me assure you that Pritzker is unelectable outside IL. Would argue the same can be said for Newsome outside Cali.

Not sure if it should be assumed that Newsom will be running for president, but the Dems need someone to speak for them, rally their troops and, organize the party into something that can communicate a cohesive message. Newsom could be one one of those. As for running fr president, I like him, but he has even more baggage (think of San Fran, French Laundrygate, etc.) than Kamala did and (IMHO) she didn't have much and look where it got her (and I voted for her). I'd love to see someone unknown breakout and, if nothing else, become a spokesperson. But perhaps I'm eating more mushrooms than I thought....;-)....

Expand full comment

Like trump didn’t have baggage? Vance didn’t have baggage? Give me baggage over someone that doesn’t! I’m so sick of the purist voter and its the reason democrats lose

America would vote for Newsom because he is handsome. He's a light weight with questionable past. We need candidates of substance and integrity. Look up how Newsom bent over for his Panera owning contributor on the minimum wage issue in CA. Newsom has skeletons. I'd rather see JB Pritzker as the nominee. He's a heavy weight, no pun intended.

Expand full comment

Yeah he's my governor, he is "meh" in popularity in my state. I like him, and I think he'd make a good POTUS and will likely run, but I'm not sure he would get the nomination. Too early to tell yet anyway.

I love Newsom!

Newsom clearly wants to run for president in 2028, but it is more than 2 years too early to announce a run. It might be more accurate to say he is "preparing the waters" as opposed to "testing the waters" for a run.

I am a lifetime Californian. I don’t like Newsom very much because I think he lacks boldness and is too closely tied to the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

I was particularly disappointed in him when he chose to issue rebates to all Californians when our state had a big surplus in the budget a few years back. That was a cheap, populist move. That money should’ve gone to infrastructure improvements, for instance, public rest stops on our interstate highways. Ours are primarily crummy and dirty, if not out of service. It is galling to me that Arizona and New Mexico have much better rest stops than California. Ours should be the best in the nation.

I love Newsom and he’d get my vote

What's wrong with Newsom starting a Podcast? We need all the facts thrown out to the American public. We need to save democracy any way we can.

You should be helping the people fight for taking our country back!

Expand full comment

Good for him! I hope he does run.

Expand full comment

Good for him. He'd demolish JD or Don Jr.

Not that it would be very difficult against those mental midgets.

All I pray is that the Dem primary process doesn't mortally wound the candidate before the general election.

For all those that complained about the lack of a Dem primary last year, that was one major thing we did have going for us.

Whoa Boy!!

Another leftist from California?!?

You cannot be serious!

I welcome any voices against Trumpism in America . Gavin Newsom may enter the presidential primary, whether he actually becomes the candidate is far from clear. But speaking out is a positive. He is not my first choice for the Oval Office.but compared to what is there now, I would vote for him in a heartbeat.

Speaking of speaking out…don’t forget the 24-HOUR BUYING BLACKOUT ON FRIDAY THE 28th.
