The irony, of course, is that The Donald is every bit as much a member of that "elite" as those who he ostensibly is decrying. He would no more have anything to do with us commoners or our lives than they would.

I concur that the Victim-In-Chief was not the cause of the current malaise/philosophy.

Before retirement from the institutional investment field, I noticed the number of social cues that money was the number one driver of the newbies into my field.

Candidates had desires to be involved in international finance and investment.

When I asked why, the answer was because of the money to be made in the Emerging Markets.

When further asked to name the countries and locations, many were dumbfounded to realize they didn't know either.

But they knew they wanted to make a lot of money.

Yes you're probably right that those factors helped Trump win the election last time. But the good thing about that is that he showed the world who he really is and he was resounded rejected in 2020 as he will be rejected again by the same people if the Republicans nominate him this upcoming election circle.

One thing on the money part of this. As the economic gap widens, the "have-nots" interest in money is pure survival. If your job barely covers your shelter, food, clothing, and no institutions are helping you, then sure, increasing your economic well-being is going to be paramount.

I’m in a Methodist church every Sunday. If Methodism or even Christianity doesn’t suit people there are other alternatives. What’s not an alternative is practicing nihilism or worshipping Donnie Koresh. Anyone that does that, it’s on them.
