As we count down the final days of Joe Biden’s presidency, I have found myself thinking more and more about his legacy — and how history will remember him.
Will he be the man who vanquished Donald Trump? The president who led the country out of the Covid-19 pandemic? The guy who should have bowed out after a single term? The dad who pardoned his son? All of those things? None of them? Somewhere in between?
While I have my own thoughts on this, I wanted to talk it out with someone who is steeped in political history and could give me some perspective on how presidents — of both parties — are remembered once they are out of office.
And so, I reached out to my friend
, who writes the indispensable Substack — an absolute fount of thoughtful analysis of where we’ve been and where we’re going in American politics — to chat.He agreed to do it — and so on Wednesday at 2 pm eastern we are going LIVE on the Substack app to talk about Biden and his legacy (as well as lots of other political stuff too!).

In my mind you have to throw out the pardon and this is why I say that. Tell me the last president who did NOT pardon someone on their way out that raised your eyebrows…some criminal or family member or whatever. There are plenty of other things to judge him on…both good and bad. Just my .02 worth…
I think he will be remembered as a good man who tried his best and left the country in good shape, economically. Unfortunately, he got too old for the job. He also ran into a loud mouth huckster who is impossible to outshout.
