Trump's twittering is what kept him from getting into more trouble. His administration would commit some serious wrongdoing and the media would start to dig into it and all he had to do was send out an offensive tweet or two and the entire MSM would act like dogs out for a walk, all focused on the hunt and then SQUIRREL!!!! The media should have ignored his tweets and focused on his ACTIONS, which were often quite problematic.
Trump knows how to play journalists. All he needed to do was tweet outrageous stuff all the time and let the journalist obsess over each tweet and write articles about each tweet and provide him with billions worth of free advertising. They all got played. And that's how he won in the first place.
I think you're on the right track, Chris, and I find myself nodding along with the other commenters suggesting you only cover relevant policy or governance issues.
Of course I'm not a journalist, and it's probably nearly impossible to actually do, but starve his ridiculous trolling "cultural content" for air (i.e. most everything on Truth? Social).
Don't ignore it, but be discerning. Report and thoughtfully engage when there's something of substance or actual "truth" that deserves attention.
We already know that Trump doesn’t have any actual policies or goal other than self-aggrandizement. Do not give his Far-from-the-Truth Social pronouncements the attention they deserve—none. We know everything these posts might reveal, he is painfully stupid, he has no interest in learning anything, he likes to give people insulting nicknames, he’s a grifter, he prizes corruption over everything, he’s the center of the world, etc. Don’t give him any oxygen unless and until he decides to become a statesman. He wants to spend hate and lies? Let him buy the time.
I want to believe that if MSM ignored Truth Social and Trump he would wither away and that would be for the good of the country. He would not be magnified as he runs his almost pathetic reelection campaign. Give all the time and writing you would expend on Trump to the other candidates in his party...for better or worse. Shut him out.
I feel like you have to cover it to some degree because of the media’s role. I also feel like it’s critically important that I ignore it as much as I can and definitely I shouldn’t respond because I just amplifies like you said.
IMO, the media played right into his hands in 2016. I totally get that he was a presidential candidate, then the nominee, however, by amplifying every Twitter utterance, he drove the news. He may believe he won the 2020 election but he knows how to get the media going. Do not cover every single thing he posts, even as a 2024 candidate. He will keep putting out the outrageous, the sickening, the disgusting “truths” but if he isn’t getting the reaction he wants from the media, it may help. Watching the morning news, he would be tweeting and then the anchors would say, how Trump just tweeted this or that and there went the planned morning content. Anchors would be saying how they were waiting for the morning tweet. NO, just NO. Do not make the news about this sick man as this is what will fire up the base.

No oxygen, no fire. Don't fan the flames.
Only comment when he presents agenda/policies. That means hardly ever.

FFS, ignore the hell out of Truth Social. That "stuff" is not news or news-worthy. Appreciate your comments, but FFS...

Agree…less is more
