Good stuff. Sad stuff.

Riddle me this Joker.

The killing of the United Healthcare CEO has been wildly hailed by lots of folks, INCLUDING most of MAGA, as a warning sign to the greedy rotten money hungry capitalist insurance executives that the American People have had enough of their GREED. EVERYONE has a horrific health insurance story. Right?

Yet these very same folks who voted against Kamala and blamed the Dems ,are totally AGAINST HEALTHCARE FOR all, ESPECIALLY GOVERNMENT SPONSORED HEALTHCARE.

So honestly, who the fuck do they think is going to provide this care? Insurance companies exist for one reason, they make a profit for their owners and investors.

They were so quick to label AOC and Bernie and any other advocate of care for all as SOCIALISTS, COMMUNISTS and worse (if that's possible), yet now they are openly condoning the message (and the tactics) of a cold blooded murderer.

Where were these folks when the Dems wanted to get them the coverage they deserve? Does anyone seriously think the GOP is going to have a "Come to Jesus" moment and help the masses?

Am I the only one who shakes my head in wonder?

Chris is using 1994 & 2010 as analogies for the 2022 mid-terms. But the striking analogy - significant patallels - to an old guy like me is 1968. LBJ drops out, Dems lose the presidency. That loss may have been affected by The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which abandoned Democrats' loyal blue-collar Southern voter. (The basis of Nixon's Southern Strategy, Wallaces significant Presidential run, ... ) Could Bidens ARP legislation have contributed similarly? LBJ was a long-time legislator who knew how to work the system to get bills passed. Like Joe Biden. A Green Act that encourages driving by building roads .... Overreach?

Hindsight is 20-20, a more fruitful exercise is whether, at the time, were there compelling alternatives to a particular policy position and how much push back did the enacted policy receive. A February 11, 2021 Newsweek/Harris X poll showed that 60% of Republican voters expressed support for the stimulus plan and a poll from Quinnipiac University found that 68% of Americans support it.

The reality is that the Biden Administration had broad popular support for more stimulus, the counterfactual would have been to do nothing in direct opposition to the mood of the country at the time. Only a retrospective analysis allows the luxury to call it a mistake.

Damon’s breakdown of how inflation got so bad was excellent.

Loved this thoughtful, wide ranging podcast, Chris and Damon; excellent historical backstory and conclusions. Have to say, disagree with the conclusion of Biden's pardon of Hunter and perhaps more blanket pardons to come, but that's from my more nihilistic impulses and perhaps I can medicate myself back to moderation. I believe our electorate crossed the Rubicon with the election of Donald Trump; Biden maybe just went Dark Brandon on an electorate that unapologetically discarded him and all of his legacy of goodwill. It's a big FU to the country, perhaps, but it alsop may be a poisoning of the well before his retreat from the biggest, populist mistake this country has ever embarked upon. I believe Biden has true fears about what this country will become under an unbridled Trump and a complicit, unethical, amoral Republican party. But he won't have regrets about not pardoning his only living son, absolving him of having to subject himself to the whims of Trump's DOJ, FBI, IRS or you name it.

Any way to provide a transcript for paying subscribers? I’m rarely in a place to watch videos but can generally read. David Lat at Original Jurisdiction does transcripts for paying subscribers, though I don’t know what the delay is from recording to printing. That’s for potentially thinking about it!

There is a "transcript" button right on this post! Just click!

Chris, I’m sorry - I just don’t see the “Transcript” button/link. Is it there when accessing on a phone, or do I need to desktop? Can you tell me where to find it? I’m really sorry - I feel like my parents right now!

Yeah, but I have to read it on my phone!! No way in hell, Chris. That's a crock. I'm 79 and want to read it on my Windows laptop. I thought that was what I was paying for.
