If Trump wins, it may be the end of one kinda important thing..our Republic. Picture a world where he is elected president again. He Then brings in miscreants like Kash Patel, Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller, Jason Miller, Don jr and Eric, etc. to do his bidding. Then imagine Trump implementing even half of the Project 2025 manifesto ideas. Next, consider the absurd all tariff no tax plan which would likely do severe damage to our economy. Finally, think about a world where we abandon NATO and are allied with Vladimir Putin. Those are not far fetched concerns. You, Chris, are being naive re the danger of a Trump second term. We have much to be worried about.

"Like, who are we as a country? Who do we want to be? Is our democracy safe from attacks against it from within? Will we ever get back to the idea of objective truths? Can the media find a way to survive?"

These are questions we should be asking NOW, not after the election. Honestly, if Trump wins, I am planning to check out of politics. I don't think I'll be able to stomach the day-to-day chaos that he is sure to bring.

Same here, Dan. I barely made it through the four years of that nightmare. I will have to check out, too, to maintain what is left of my sanity.

Jeff, completely agree. We know the answers to almost all of the questions under the trump banner, because they have told us.

Do we believe that the world stands by while a nuclear armed US goes nazi? This election is an ending, yes, but could quickly spiral into the end!

I agree. Chris, your questions would be relevant in a “normal” election. We are not in a normal election. The question is what damage Trump and his thugs will do to our republic.

I agree 100%, Jeff. We saw what the MAGATS did last time, and they’ve had years to prepare their next assault. As long as tRump and his cult exist, our nation is in grave danger‼️

If Kamala wins, hold on for a violent period in our country. Jan 6 might just look like a dress rehearsal. At least Trump won’t have the office to use to his own benefit. My big question is will he retain power over The House to continue to block badly needed legislation. I’m 73 and I really hope I can experience a Trump free existence n my “golden” years

If Trump wins, we fight like hell to get democracy back. Whatever it takes. Like the French Resistance did during WWII. If Harris wins, we get to keep it. It isn’t a hard choice.

I'm on board. I appreciate the fact that you try to evaluate & report on what all the parties do. That guarantees you annoy about 50% who seem to think you shouldn't point out a problem as "you're help XXX win". In the last 10 years or so, we've lost the idea that the media should be objective reporters rather than advocates.

Short answer is I'm glad you're in it for the long-term. Keep it up.

Thanks for the kind words, Parker. And for getting what I am trying to do here.

Chris may report on all the parties, but not evenly. I’m still waiting for the Trump flip flop piece, and three columns on why Harris should win, to match the 3 that have appeared so far on why Trump should win. Just sayin’

As usual, I agree with Parker. I would just add that regardless of who wins, I hope the transition away from the horse race changes the conversation and tone in this community. Our political leaders are going to continue to reject dialogue and exploit our divides until we as voters show that dialogue is possible.

Count me among those who do believe that a second term for Trump very likely does mean the end of this country's democracy. And, can anyone imagine the Supreme Court with a 7-2 or even a 8-1 conservative majority?

Hmm, I tried to click the 20% action link and the app said the action was not available. I tried using a browser instead, but safari would only open the article in the app. 🤷

I didn't know if this helps, but this is the page I was taken to from the link. Worked for me. https://chriscillizza.substack.com/subscribe?coupon=a35e4a6e&utm_content=150058957

I see my subscription as part of my self care. Most of my friends and family don't want to talk about politics because "it's too depressing", but I think we HAVE to keep talking about it!

Chris, there are times when I think you're 100% wrong, but I appreciate that you explain your reasoning. I agree that we shouldn't shut out something just because we don't agree. I love your analysis of Trump's speeches, because I think that laughing at him takes away some of his power.

The thing I appreciate most is your insistence on a civil dialogue. I don't know if you've ever had to block anyone, but if you have, I appreciate it.

Keep moving up and to the right!
