I am guessing this was written as satire? If this was April 1, I might have laughed... Is it a Friday the 13th thing? Or maybe a script plot line for Saturday Night Live, which I am not sure even they would touch?

I understand the concept he should try to lead the circus (cesspool?) he has helped to create - would serve him right to be on the other side of all of the arrows he has spent his congressional career shooting at the leadership - I think Boehner would be delighted to see him in the role and try to manage the caucus. I even understand the concept put forward by Brendan Buck this morning https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/jim-jordan-house-speaker-maga-hardliner-republican-rcna119252 that Jordan would be best able to gain the support of the ultra MAGA right members.

Yet, it is all of us, everyone outside of the beltway, who would suffer. This is not a man who can be trusted - just his actions as leader of the so-called "weaponization" committee should be proof positive enough. The risk to the nation and the ability of the government to operate or function is at stake - who knows how long a shutdown might last based upon Jordan's leadership, a man who has never been known to compromise. And this is but one issue he will have to manage through.

Yes, it might be a hilarious show to watch him try to manage the house - absolutely - however, to me, the cost to America is way too high - forgive the language, however, I fear it would be nothing but a horrendous sh** show.

He won’t be leading. I believe the goal is to not govern, have a shutdown, and put forward bills that will go nowhere.

Jordan is probably right that he knew nothing about the sexual abuse. If I was an athlete on that team who had been abused by that doctor, the absolute last person I would tell would be the Biggest Asshole on the team.

Several of the wrestlers have testified under oath Jordan was told directly of the abuse - I do not believe Jordan has ever testified under oath, however, this may change if a couple of the current suits continue to head to trial...

I know that. They were braver than I would have been.

Chris, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

So I'll get serious and answer your serious question: Why not let Jordan lead?

What's happening is an assault on the institution of The House of Representatives by MAGA extremists. They proudly support convicted January 6 insurrectionists, and openly welcome civil war.

Timothy Snyder in his book "On Tyranny" draws twenty lessons from the history of the rise of fascism in the 20th century. Second only to "Do not obey in advance" is "Defend institutions".

Why not let Jordan lead? Because it would amount to both obeying in advance, and surrendering rather than defending the institution. Simple really.

Whether he wins or not, the Democrats will certainly make him one of the faces of today's GOP -- as they retake the House next year.

I’m sure there’ll be any number of anti-Jordan people doing to him what Mace did to Scalise with the David Duke history. It doesn’t matter if you or someone on the left brings up Ohio State. It matters if Republicans in the House can use it to justify voting no on him.

The only option is to work with Dems no matter how painful that is for them. 😢

We should not give up our ability to govern this country to a small faction of extremist, which is what will happen if Jim Jordan becomes speaker. Better to make an effort to join with Democrats and bring a moderate Republican to leadership. It could be a turning point away from Trumpism for this country. I support Jerry Weiss's effort to do so. You should too. Let's stop ranting and raving about how evil the extremist are and start doing something about it. I get what you are saying, Chris. I can also agree with your points, however, our country will be going further off the cliff if Jordan were to become speaker. A hard no from me. Can’t stand to even look at him. The only good thing to happen would be to have his political career go up in flames.

Uh, no. Just no. Emphatically, no.

1) You are absolutely correct about Jordan: and

2) That you are correct is a damning indictment of the Republican Party.

Although I understand the tortured logic of Chris' conclusion, the thought of Jordan as speaker is just, well, unthinkable. Jordan in leadership should not be wished upon our country. Jordan may be the single biggest embarrassment ever to come out of the athletic department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a member of the UW Athletic Hall of Fame...but he brings great shame to the institution almost daily. He is the second most unpopular GOPer in Madison. Well, OK, maybe the third most unpopular GOPer. Let's hope his candidacy dies painfully...but quickly.

Chris: While I usually like where you come out, to my core I truly believe that you missed the mark big time with your Jorden article. Simply put, I don’t believe it appropriate to put someone who should be an inmate in an institution in charge of a mental institution. Jordan is dangerous, dishonest, and limited, and he should never be allowed to serve in a leadership position anywhere, anytime, anyplace!. Please go back to the drawing board, think of what is in the best interest for Democracy, and our country, and start over. After all, no one is perfect, so you get a pass from me. Thanks for listening, and for writing and sharing. Jack

Jack,a lot of us know who they (Jordan , Trump etc)really are. Sheeps in wolf's clothes. But Jordan is not going to win this thing. Don't be foolEd sir

Agreed he should win. Upside is that, if history is any indicator, being speaker will ruin his useless political career too.

Jordan WANTS the government to fail. He'll destroy the US as a credible world power and take a victory lap afterwards. He and his ilk look forward to a permanent place atop a country full of serfs.

Why not let him lead it?

• Government shut down

• Default on debt

Stock market crash. Run on dollar, Americans finding out the last vestige of International privilege gone, with it our standard of living.

Jordan is a wailing rhesus monkey, and completely loyal to 91 indictments criminal Trump.

How disingenuous. Perfect! -- as a disaster for America. Which means for the whole world just now that barbarians are testing the gates.
