It’s easy to look at the debate and say Trump had a bad night. It certainly didn’t go as he hoped and he missed Biden so badly. But the reality is this is who he is. This is Trump, vile, scattered and with no actual platform or agenda. This is the guy so many people claim they trust on the economy, on immigration, on law enforcement and even on abortion. I would be embarrassed to be part of the GOP. But I’m sure they’ll claim the debate was rigged and unfair. I know there are no guarantees after tonight, but how can a rational person look at Trump and say, yeah, we need another four years of that???

Eeek! I should have specified that I agree with *Mark!*

Yes, they're crying "Foul" already. I believe it was David Urban on CNN whose first comment was "It was 3-to-1 against Trump with the ABC moderators being tough on Trump and easy on Harris." And Scott Jennings agreed...

Chris, you dance around the obvious, which is that the man is mentally unstable. Why can't we just acknowledge that he's nuts? Maybe the thick-headed have to actually hear that articulated if they can't discern for themselves. This should be unquestionably disqualifying, yet it won't be. What that says about this country is deeply disturbing.

If Trump can be this easily manipulated by Kamala, imagine what Putin would do to him.

I agree that Hillary Clinton won the debates against Trump in 2016, but I don't think that she won by the margin that VP Harris won last night. I approached the debate with an open mind--I am one of those rare, undecided voters, for reasons I will not get into here (though I am in a very blue state, so it doesn't really matter what I do)--but to me, and looking ahead at the next four years, she projected an aura of calm competence, whereas Trump, if anything, seemed even MORE unhinged and angry than normal, which is saying something. Do I want four more years of that? HELL, NO.

Yes.

This was the equivalent of an NFL team playing a group of high school kids (I wouldn't even say high school 🤔)

Kamala was very good and Trump destroyed himself.

Kamala offered a vision for the future. Trump kept rehashing old petty grievances.

There was also the imagery. Trump didn’t smile once and Harris seemed entirely human and relatable.

Literally, as this t-shirt says: "Kamala removed stubborn orange stains" tonight 👇🤣

I think this race should be OVER.

She looked and acted presidential. A clear victory.

Umm he got way more time than she did. He constantly broke limits on responses. Once again he received favorable treatment because he bullied the moderators.

The classic meltdown was when Harris said that Trump nixed the bi-partisan immigration deal for his own selfish interests, and his rallies were boring with people leaving early.

So what’s Trump’s response? He spends the next two minutes saying his rallies are the best and Kamala has to pay people to show up. Nothing about immigration which just underscores his commitment to no one but himself. Outstanding!….:)

The strategy for both was to cast the other as an incumbent with a bad record. Harris nailed it, Trump talked about Haitians eating pets.

RIP Donald.....

Trump is not president. He is a former president, twice impeached, liable for sexual abuse, a convicted felon and a thief of American top secrets.

When Hillary Clinton ran against Donald J Trump, the nation knew him as the big boss on “The Apprentice” who enjoyed golfing. The nation did not fully comprehend the depth of his desire for autocracy, or his racism, xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny, and anti-semitism. Today, we do.

I'm not sure how much this debate will matter - maybe it won't make a difference. But I think this was the most decisive beatdown of Trump in a debate. None of Trump's other debate losses were as bad as this very one-sided thrashing, even the first 2020 debate where Trump shouted over Chris Wallace and Joe Biden the entire time. That should count for something.

What is the argument AGAINST the moderators fact checking? Are you concerned that it will end up dominating the debate? I thought the moderators did a reasonable job in balancing accuracy vs too much. Seriously, are they supposed to let the claim that people are murdering new borns go unchallenged??
