If the race comes down to a choice between Biden and Trump, I predict 55-45 for Biden. The abortion issue is huge among women. In the meantime, what can citizens do to protect our sanity?
Adam Kinzinger made the point today that if some of the GOP candidates like Scott and Haley are unwilling to criticize Trump for his indictments, they should just drop out of the race and endorse him already. Do you think those two are just running for cabinet positions or the VP slot at this point?
I'll piggyback on that and ask if there are Republicans who feel they can temper or moderate Trump. Do those people exist? After seeing the likes of Mattis and Kelly chewed up and spat out, does anyone doubt they would be crushed? Or are they still delusional?
I know it is foolish to blame anyone for 2024 Trump. But I do blame Sen. Mitch McConnell for not impeaching Trump the second time. That would have at the least ended Trump’s ability to run in 2024. But then I also blame him for not allowing Obama to select a Supreme Court judge.
Assuming that Trump remains the leader of the Republican Party until his death (regardless of the outcome of any trial and/or election), who is his most likely successor when he eventually kicks the bucket?
In 1960 John Kennedy was considered presumptuous for announcing his presidential bid in January of that year. Now in August BEFORE the election year, Trump's defenders are (falsely) claiming his multiple indictments are "election interference." Some pundits are already handicapping the 2028 race. Is one of our problems that presidential elections are now neverending campaigns?
Until yesterday, I was surprised that there seemed to be little in the media about the law scholars’ piece that’s out in draft form, asserting that Article 3 of the 14th amendment to the constitution prohibits anyone who participated in an insurrection is ineligible to hold public office. Yesterday’s WaPo had an opinion piece by Edward Foley that discusses the issue in some depth and suggests a path forward to make it happen.
A lot of presidential primary frontrunners campaigns have ultimately failed. Dean in '04. Clinton and Giuliani in '08. Jeb Bush in '16. Trump is in front now. (By a lot). How do his numbers compare with the failed frontrunners at this point in the race? Is his lead way more than theirs were? Could you see Trump's primary bid failing at this point even though his numbers are strong?
In retrospect, shouldn't Willis have indicted Trump 2.5 years ago for ordering the Secretary of State to find him 11,800 votes, THEN investigated Trump for a possible RICO conviction? That seems like an easy conviction, and the tape was leaked, so it's not a matter of not showing your hand. Had she done that, Trump likely would be in a Georgia prison right now, and the damage he's wrought over the last 30 months(the grifting, smearing innocent people, perpetuating The Big Lie, etc.) could have been minimized.
Although the wheels of justice do not work quickly enough for this to happen--IF somehow Trump was convicted and possibly in jail can he still be a candidate? Could he potentially win in such a scenario? If he were to win would the trials go away? I’m so mad at the republicans for not convicting him on the second impeachment to bar him from office again.
Let's talk about something: What will No Labels do? It could offer an anti 45 Republican on top of the ticket. I sense most normal voters being disillusioned if 45 is the nominee. There would be mass protests if he ever got back into power.
Welcome back. Whenever I open up my email I always look for your emails first. I have noticed lately that the pro Trump PAC, MAGA, is advertising on CNN. Seems like a waste of money to me. I would think your average CNN viewer is never going to vote for Trump. What are your thoughts? Keep up the good work!
Could this have been a requirement by CNN in order for both sides to agree to the ill-fated Town Hall earlier this year? Trump exposure for ad revenue?
Hi Chris, glad you survived your surfing lesson. I’m curious about the now not so secret grand jury that Judge Cannon reprimanded Jack Smith about because it is not in her jurisdiction. If this grand jury is concerned with Trump’s unlawful possession and sharing of top secret classified documents at his Bedminster golf resort, could Smith bring a separate indictment in New Jersey with those charges? And if so, would it go to a different judge in that jurisdiction as a separate case?
In a counter-factual world in which Biden - like LBJ- ultimately decides to bow out b/c of polls ,etc, how would you handicap the potential field. Whitmer? Polis? Pritzker? Newsome? Harris? Others?

The key is for the Dems to get out the vote like in 2008 with Obama and 2020 for Uncle Joe.
To borrow from The Rock...Sane people have to smell what Uncle Joe is cooking.
True!!!
"Let's finish the job''

They had 8 years to prove that fantasy...has not happened.

Has everything to do with when he dies...that could be a other 20 years!!! YIKES!
now, that's a depressing thought.

What are the odds that Trump would pick DeSantis as VP? He has the next highest poll numbers.
Do you think Adam Kinzinger will be a candidate for public office in the future?

Chris,
I am perplexed that the "normal" media do not concentrate on the potential of Independents (right and left) .
I don't give a fiddlers fuque about registered MAGAs and registered Dems...they aren't going to determine the 2024 election.
