About the 14th amendment, I think there is a very clear case of Trump "giving aid and comfort" to the insurrectionists (who HAVE been convicted) by saying he will pardon them. IMO this is easier to prove than him being an insurrectionist. Is anyone making this case? Why not??

Love your posts and appreciate you telling it like it is.

Dear Chris

Well... my hair is on fire. I have questions about the Supreme court and its inevitable/eventual rulings on all things Trump. 1. What are the chances that the Supreme Court says that Jan 6 was not an insurrection, that Trump cannot be tried for "deeds" committed while in office and that the American public does not get to hear all of these cases laid out for them? I am convinced, beautiful dreamer... i know, that most Americans are not really paying attention and that when they get to hear that Trump tried to pressure states to not certify, that he did withhold documents, that he did participate in an insurrection they will not vote for him. If the Supremes weigh in before any court cases can commence, the chance to alert Americans will be gone. I do not expect him to ever spend even a day in jail, but i want my fellow Americans to at least hear what he has been accused of. Dear god in heaven. sorry to harsh your mellow just 2 days into the new year.

No chance at all that the Supreme Court would rule that Trump has immunity for the crimes he committed during his tumultuous and inconsequential Presidency. If they say that Trump has immunity, then according to Mark Cuban, the self made Billionaire, Biden can then say, well he is the sitting President now so he can go on crime spree( not in Biden's DNA though as he is a very decent man) because the Supreme Court says so. It's not going to happen. No immunity for Trump because no one is above the law in this country. My thing is that if Trump believes he is innocent let him just go to trial and prove his innocence.

I would bet a large sum of money we end up with Biden v Trump II: Electric Boogaloo.

I could never vote for Trump, obviously. And I wrote in Evan McMullin in 2016 (which, ok, is not something I ended up being particularly proud of) and Mitt Romney in 2020. I have had so many fights about how my vote is earned, and that no one is entitled to it. And that we cannot compromise to vote for the lesser of evils. That we must not vote for terrible candidates or the parties have no incentive to pick better ones.

Biden is fine, but the Democratic Party has made it clear it doesn’t want my vote.

But for the first time in my life, I am going to vote for Democrats. Not voting for the GOP is simply not enough. So I’ll vote for Biden. I’ll vote for whatever Democrat is running against Ted Cruz (unless he builds a time machine and goes back to January 6 and doesn’t object to any State electoral votes and is somehow also able to procure a personality transplant and the desire to actually be a Senator instead of a Twitter troll).

It makes me sad, but I don’t have another option.

I am holding out hope that after the two conventions, new candidates will wind up bring the nominees.

(Especially on the GOP side!)

A pipedream? Probably, but maybe 2024 will be the year that optimism rules.

Hey, a fellow dreamer! Should we listen to the Aerosmith song "dream on" over a glass of wine?

Pipedream. BIG pipe.

Thought experiment: how might Trump have answered Nikki Haley’s Civil War question? I’m betting he knows next to nothing about the war!

Trump would never take audience questions and if he did he would ramble on about something unrelated. LOL

Chris, what's your take on the kerfuffle between Jimmy Kimmel and Aaron Rodgers? Here's my assessment: Jimmy is a guy I could drink a beer with, if I didn't throw said beer at Aaron.

Chris I posted this in reaction to someone else's comment but I would like you to weigh in on it too if you'd be so kind as I don't know much about how pollsters operate and I'm sure you're an expert!

Do you think its a bit like Dewey-Truman where the Republicans were much more likely to have phones and so the polls were massively off base? Maybe pollsters are much more likely to call landlines and who still has landlines? Mostly older white people who are more likely to be Republicans. Not sure if pollsters call cell phones as much, I know they've never called mine. Or is it like Chris has been saying where the majority of people just are tuned out to the election because it's not in their face yet?

My favorite Christmas gift is a blanket my in-laws gave me with their favorite pictures of my daughter (she's 4) from the last year. What was your favorite gift?

Hi Chris,

Happy New Year! I hope you will indulge my curiosity about a scenario (admittedly longshot), where a presidential nominee can't participate in the general election due to death/incapacity/prison/whatever occurring before November. Do the DNC/RNC then pick the respective candidate? What exactly is the process? And your thoughts on who would be the nominee in such a case (both D and R).

I assume the VP would step up, though there are no rules…

In one of your recent articles, you mentioned your belief (with which I agree), that being able to win a Presidential Election is an entirely different skill than actually being an effective President. In your time covering politics, can you think of someone from both sides of the aisle where you thought "He/She couldn't win their party's nomination, but they would have made a very effective President"?

Gary Hart?

Although the process of having a caucus seems to be a lot of work, and probably does not work well in metropolitan areas, do you think there are any advantages of picking the party nominee via caucus? Even though my team on a downward spiral, favorite Christmas gift from my wife was a ceremonial coin used to start an Eagles game .

That is such a cool gift! As a fellow Eagles fan, I just wanted to commiserate on how the end of the season is going...losing to Arizona? WTF

What sort of reaction would there be from the public if DT got back in the White House? What sort of resistance would there be? Where would we go once he left office and what would become of his legal cases? I just want someone in the middle I can vote for and not have two parties so polarized from one another.

Could you see a scenario where Trump wins, but the Democrats regain the House and how do you think that dynamic would work?

2 questions Chris, in keeping with your two favorite topics, Politics and Life. You have a time machine, you go forward in time 50 years. How is Donald Trump remembered? Now you can use your time machine to go back in time and change anything in your life. What do you change?

I appreciate your columns lately on anxiety. I have dealt with that my whole life. In my generation (I am 62) the term "anxiety" wasn't really used. As a kid I was just told that I was too "nervous". The fix I was told was just to stop being nervous. Thankfully now we have a better understanding of anxiety and depression. Its always good knowing that I am not alone in this battle. Thank you.

I do have another question because it's been bugging me:

Watching Iowa St in the Liberty Bowl, there were ads from DeSantis' PAC and Haley's PAC both targeting the other. I continue to be baffled by this strategy given who is in first. Are they just running to position themselves for 2028 at this point?

A Jan 4 Washington Post-UMD poll finds 'Twenty-five percent of Americans say it is “probably” or “definitely” true that the FBI instigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol'. This level of belief in an outright lie dismays me. What are your thoughts - and how can this type of thinking be effectively countered.
